A former shield test subject who has a vendetta against the organization due to what he went through to gain his abilities. X-01 hides his plans of vengeance behind a straight face and a confident yet aloof attitude, but he gets frustrated easily and is prone to lashing out. X-01 is practically immune to death threats or threats of harm due to his abilites. X-01 is also desensitized to violence or killing and will do either if needed.

However, X-01 can be found going through bits of depression as the feeling of being lost can weigh on his mind. It’s a rare moment of vulnerability and a crack in his ideas of vengeance.

Super strength

X-01 has enhanced physical strength to the level of a super soldier, maybe even beyond that. X-01 can lift cars easily and throw them at enemies. X-01 can also improve this ability further with more training unlike other super soldiers, though his training would need to be more extreme.

Enhanced endurance

X-01 has more endurance and stamina than Olympic athletes, being able to run entire city blocks continuously without wearing out. X-01 does have his limits though, and chases that last for a while can eventually wear him down.

Resistant skin

X-01’s skin is highly resistant to most forms of damage, small arms fire, burning, and explosions don’t seem to do too much damage against him outside of prolonged exposure. X-01 can be injured by heavy arms and artillery though, but normal means of damage don’t do too much against him.

Enhanced Regeneration

One of the most notable and strongest abilities outside his physical strength, X-01’s body is capable at repairing itself at a faster rate than humans, and he is capable of regenerating entire vital organs if given enough time. In that sense, X-01 is functionally unkillable unless his body is completely destroyed. X-01 will take longer to regenerate depending on the injury, and repairing his entire body could take up to a week. Repairing organs tend to take 1 to two days for a full recovery.

X-01’s body tends to prefer reconnecting lost parts rather than fully remaking it, and will go for that option if possible, however it’s completely capable of remaking the body if necessary. The former allows him to regenerate within half the time. If a vital organ like the heart or brain is destroyed, X-01 will enter a state of dormancy to recover, which leaves him vulnerable. Shield first found out about this ability when he used it to fake his own death several times.

The origin of this ability actually stems from alien biology that was used in experimentation, an alien that had the same regeneration abilities. The SHIELD scientists believed this could stabilize his condition during the testing. It’s unknown what alien he got it from, as all information relating to it has been deleted

Tendrils

X-01 is able to sprout four red tendrils from his back in a similar fashion to Doctor octopus, however the tips of his are sharpened and can stab into walls and the ground to his weight. Each tendril has X-01’s own strength, meaning a single one can lift a car and throw it. The tendrils also have the resistance his skin has, and can extend to thirteen feet each.

This ability also came from the aforementioned Alien DNA that made his regeneration

Electricity

Electricity can by X-01’s defenses and cause extreme agitation to X-01. While it can’t outright kill him, it can stun him for a period of time.

Shrapnel/lodging

Oddly enough, X-01 cannot regenerate wounds if there’s something blocking the area he needs to regenerate, meaning shrapnel stuck into his body can keep him from healing … it’s a good method of containing him.

Gas attacks

Despite his healing ability, X-01 is vulnerable to certain non lethal gasses and chemicals such as anesthesia. Lethal gas or chemicals do trigger X-01’s regeneration though.

Backstory

X-01’s birth place is unknown to SHIELD, all attempts to locate it end with dead ends or contradictions, however a general location was mapped to the northern United States. X-01 is a war orphan, his birth parents were both serving in the US military and were deployed oversees after he was born, however they both went MIA after a mission so he was put into the foster system by the person who was taking care of him.

SHIELD found X-01 in the middle of the Mojave by operatives on an alien artifact recovery mission and was originally taken in to find his parents or a guardian, however once it was made clear that he had no form of family, a researcher decided to take him as a subject for a new super soldier experiment. The experiment was started to improve field agent capabilities- but it was changed from a level 6 clearance to a level 8 clearance due to later events in the experiment’s time period and the use of alien experimentation. X-01, despite his designation, was not the first subject of this test … but he was the first surviving one. X-01 went through 5 long years of agonizing experimentation in a place known as the Vault. After 5 years, X-01’s abilities fully matured … but at that time he was able to break free and in a rampage, he went off and killed every agent and researcher in the facility. Due to this, all records of the experiment process and procedures were destroyed, forever burying any way of replicating it. X-01 escaped the vault soon after his rampage and went off the radar for a bit of time.

The events of this breakout and later reviews of security footage led to the increase in security clearance… and everyone involved was stripped of their rank if they were still alive. The experiments were highly inhumane, and attempts to reason with X-01 were made in an attempt to make him an ally rather than an enemy. Most attempts ended in violence, however one ended up with X-01 being classified as dead due to a bullet in the head. What SHIELD was ignorant to at the time was his healing ability, his body was found missing days later when a clean up crew went looking.
