The alarm in Peter’s room rang loudly, so loud that he slammed his hand into the clock which broke it, but at least it stopped ringing. He rose up in bed and rubbed his eyes gently, grunting as he slowly got out of bed and grabbed clean clothes before walking into the bathroom. After ten minutes he walked out, his hair done, teeth brushed, smelling fresh and looking great. He slid down the railing of the stairs and landed on his feet to be greeted by his aunt, May.

“Well look at you! It’s Saturday, Peter. Why are you up so early?” she asked, turning her attention back to setting the table as the coffee maker makes a low humming sound while the pot fills up. “I gotta meet up with Mary Jane and Flash! They’re supposed to have a football game today and I promised I’d be there.“

“Oh, okay! Well since you’re up, do you want to help your old aunt with making breakfast?” she asked, making space as she approached the stove. “I thought you didn’t want me in the kitchen after burning the eggs?” She laughed as he approached her side, wrapping an apron around him as he cracked the egg on the pan and watched as the yolk fell into the pan.

“Well that was five years ago and I think you’ve learned your lesson,” she teased as the egg’s below them cooked to the brutal heat. “So how come you got up early? I’d expect you to enjoy your sleep on the weekend.” Peter asked while he cooked the eggs. Footsteps creaked on the stairs as she was about to explain until he turned to see his uncle Ben approaching and then lightly patted his back.

“That’s my fault, kiddo. Your aunt is driving me to the store so we can fix my car. It’s making a clunking sound in the engine so I can only assume it’s about to explode.” Peter and May shared a laugh before she turned to him and lightly patted his cheek. “That’s what happens when your 1968 Camaro is telling you it’s time to part ways.”

“No, that thing will live just as long as me if I have anything to say about it. Someday it’ll be yours, Peter. You have your license so it’ll be perfect for you. It’s even red!“ Peter laughed and shook his head before uncle Ben took over as Peter rushed to the door. “I always preferred going my own way!”

Peter waved off his uncle and aunt before he closed the door behind him and rushed down the steps to see the bus blow by him. He sighed in annoyance as he then began to run after the bus once again for the fourth time this week. A car pulled up and drove by him as he ran and honked their horn which startled Peter causing him to jump high in the air and crash on the ground below him.

“Shit! I’m sorry, Pete! I didn’t think I’d scare you that much!” Barbara exclaimed, rushing out of the car and helping Peter back onto his feet as he rubbed the back of his neck nervously. “Nah you’re fine! Just keeping me on my toes!”

“C’mon guys! We’re gonna be late!” Mary Jane screamed from the backseat, urging the both of them to hop in the car. Without a second thought, Barbara pulled Peter into the car and sped off towards Midtown High as the music on the radio blared loudly. “Late?! I thought we were gonna be early?” Peter asked as Mary Jane shook her head in disappointment.

“Not for the game, doof! I need to give Flash something before the game!” Both Barbara and Peter looked amongst each other before looking back at Mary Jane, watching her red hair blow with the wind. “Oh relax, nothing like that! It’s something special.”

“You guys have been together for almost four years! Why can’t you wait to give it to him after the game?” Peter noticed Mary Jane’s expression shifting drastically after Barbara asked the question, so he turned his body to face her and rested his arm around the head rest. “MJ?” Peter asked, snapping her out of her trance.

“Well… after my dad left us, I had to get a job early on to help mom with finances. Which reminds me to give May back that money for the car. Once again I’m sorry for asking you guys,” she said with guilt, Peter shaked his hand and waved it off as if nothing happened. “You know May. She’ll help anyone! Plus you’re like family, MJ. She’ll just tell you to save the money.”

“So what is it that you’re gonna give Flash?” Barbara asked, watching in the rear view mirror as Mary Jane reached into her purse and pulled out a small case. She carefully opened it and revealed a key which caused Barbara to bring the car to a complete stop and caused Peter to hit his head on the dash of the car. “Shit! Sorry!”

“Ow… mind warning me before feeling the need for no speed?” Peter joked, rubbing his head as he rubbed the bump on his forehead. “So what exactly does one key mean?” he asked, still dazed and confused from the sudden impact on his head.

“It means that I want to have a place of our own. I want to surprise him with it before the game starts!” The girls cheered as Peter tended to his bruised head and groaned as Barbara once again stepped on the gas to find a spot in the parking lot.

The entire school was so filled with students, opposing students, teachers and parents of both schools that it felt almost overwhelming. After taking a moment, Peter navigated through the large crowd with the girls behind him. Eventually they arrived at the locker rooms where the football team rushed out, cheering their chant and hyping each other up as they bumped their chests and helmets against another’s. The three quickly snuck inside and once they turned the corner they found Flash. He was trying to prepare himself for the game as he talked to himself in a mirror.

“Okay… okay Thompson! You got this… the team is counting on you. You’re the Quarterback. You’re the leader. You’re only playing a game that could impact your future… and life.” Peter and Barabra stayed back and watched as Mary Jane walked up to Flash, gently wrapping her arms around one of his and pulling him down slightly to kiss his cheek.

“You’re gonna knock them dead, Flash,” Mary Jane said as Flash cheered loudly and hugged her tightly. Peter and Barbara watched from a distance and smiled at the sight of them being happy. “You think it’ll work out?” Barbara asked quietly, Peter then turned to stare at her with his heart beating faster than usual.

“I don’t see why not. They’re perfect for each other. Have been since middle school.” Barbara turned to see Peter’s gaze and they both looked away shyly. ”What about you?” he asked which caused her to tilt her head slightly, her face now filled with questions.

“I mean you’re a pretty girl, Barb. I’m surprised that no one has swept you off of your feet.” She laughed, brushing her hair behind her ear, her cheeks slightly red from the compliments Peter gave. “You’re not so bad yourself, Parker.”

“Can you two just kiss already?!” Mary Jane screamed from the distance which startled the two and broke them out of their moment. “You guys have been in a non-stop flirting fight! Do something about it or I’ll do it for you!”

Both Barbara and Peter laugh as the two turn the corner to see Flash right behind Mary Jane, his arm around her as they both glow with joy. Peter noticed Flash’s expression so the two walked off, leaving the girls to talk among themselves as the boys walked out of the locker room and behind the stands which stood across the football field.

“You look nervous, you shouldn’t be. You got this!” Peter exclaimed, patting his best friend’s back as Flash laughed nervously. “I know, I know. I just… this game means a lot to me, Pete. My family, shit the team is counting on me tonight!”

“That’s not how you should be viewing this, Flash. The only person you should be playing for tonight is you. You made this happen because you put in the effort, the work.” Peter gently tugged on the pads of Flash’s gear, almost pulling his friend down so he could look his best friend in the eye.

“If you’re going out there tonight, you’re going out there to give it your all.” Flash laughs and lifts a thumb up before sliding his helmet on. “Looks like you got that uncle Ben wisdom!” he said before rushing out the stands and cheering on the team as they rushed out onto the field.

Peter followed by Mary Jane and Barbara took their place in the stands, finding themselves at the very top and found the best view of the large field with its cheering crowd of parents and teachers alike. The lights around the field shut off, each light shutdown immediately after the other as the drums slowly kick in. Then the chanting from the opposite stands they sat in started to rise up, their feet slamming down as the drums picked up their pace. The players rushed out in black and white jerseys, their gear shining as they rushed out onto the field.

“How can they not be tired from hyping each other up? That looked tiring enough,” Mary Jane said, looking at the football players with fascination. “Much like Peter to achieve the best in his classes, it’s never exhausting!” The trio turned to see Doctor Curt Connors and his son, Billy.

“Doctor Connors! I didn’t think this was your kind of scene,” Barbara stated, watching the teacher laugh as his son watched in awe at the football game. “Typically it’s not, but I finished work early and I promised my son I’d take him to watch the game.”

“Hey, Billy, who’s your favorite from the Tigers?” Peter asked, watching the young boy turn with his eye’s almost sparkling like stars. “Flash! Flash, Flash, Flash!”

“Well I think I know who his favorite is,” Barbara said, the two laughing as Doctor Connors gave a small chuckle before sitting beside the kids. “He adores the man. Flash has always been helpful with Billy, I cannot see him not in our lives now.”

“Well you did a lot for Flash, Doc. You got him through his parents' death, like Ben and May did for me. That’s something you can never forget.” Peter ed all too well the news he got when an officer told May about the murder of both Richard and Mary Parker.

“It’s been eight years, hasn’t it?” Mary Jane asked, turning to see Peter take his glasses off and wipe them clean before setting them back in his face. “Yep… I miss them a lot, but I’ve made peace with it.” Peter was never a good liar but whenever it came to making others happy or for them to not worry, he always made it stick.

“Hey, Peter? I just realized that I need to go back to the lab to finish a paper I’m working on with a colleague. Do you think you guys would be okay helping me with the experiment? We can wait for Flash after the game.” Peter beamed with excitement, immediately standing up stoically.

“Say no more, Doc! We’ll be glad to help! Right?” Peter asked, turning to the girls for their agreement. “Sure, why not! It’s an excuse to see Pete’s nerd brain in action!”

“I’ll go but me and Flash have dinner plans later so we won’t be there long, if that’s okay?” Doctor Connor smiled and waved it off. “That’s perfectly fine! It won’t take long, plus I’d rather have my best students there to help me!”

“We won’t let you down, Doctor Connors!”

Hours flew by until the final quarter. Twenty seconds left on the board, the score 25-29. The Tigers are on the offense and Flash, star quarterback, is nervous… then suddenly he figured out how to finally clutch the game and win. He pulled his team together and called for his play and the team broke and got on the line. Flash yelled out and the ball flung backwards and he held the ball out for a player to rush by and grab it. A couple enemy players quickly tackled the man down but there was no ball.

Flash then revealed he still had the ball and quickly hands off the ball behind the player and standing in an exact pose as the player made a touchdown. The score was now 29-29. They needed one more point and it was time for a kick off. Flash prepared himself as he rushed toward the ball and kicked it up in the air before being tackled onto the turf. They all watched in slow motion as the ball slowly made it through the goal, and just like that… the Tigers won the game.
