So i made a hammer for chipping slag off of stick welds. It is made out of an old file that was to bad to use and some spare iron. I started by grinding the point on the end of the file. Then i cut it to length(i used another hammer for the aprox. length). I made a cupple of es with the sanding disc since the file was rusted realy bad. Next i took the spare iron i had laying around and twisting it to see what the result will be(i didn't have any pipe laying around). It turned out way better than i thought. Next i made the two ends of the handle flat. So the next step was welding it all together. I used stick welding(ironic  ) to weld the two parts together. And even if they aren't the prettiest welds it does the job. The whole thing took me about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The handle turned out ergonomic by coincidence to!

Don't worry bout that
I making and welding stuff like that when I was 12
I don't think welding is a good way to get an hammer.
It's used to hit things, and welding points are the main critical surfaces. I think it could have a fatigue break very soon.
But i could be wrong, let me know if it will hold for long time ^^
Well as you can see i slopped a lot of metal on there :joy: and i do understand you in that point but the hammer has a very pointy tip so it makes it removing slag a lot easier. And based on my previous welds on similar stuff i think it will hold up just well. I'll inform you anyways when it fails
Does the handle kind of oscillate like a spring, as soon you hit your metal plate?

Nope. The flat bar that it is made out of is 2-3 mm (0.08-0.11 inch) thick and tightly wound together. Even if that would be the case the handle is so short that my hand fits over the whole handle  the winding was all just a test that turned out successfull
