Today's review is for the game: Darkest Dungeon.
This game is beautiful, just blows my mind. It is an older one but definitely worth a play.
Set in a hamlet looking out on a collection of dungeons, the player must manage a collection of hired mercenaries to delve into these dungeons and explore/fight and survive your way to fighting the final boss in the final dungeon.
This game is very tough and is about making the est of a bad situation. Characters die, they go mad and attack eachother and resources run out. It is heavily lovecraftian and truly an amazing game.
Pros:
The game is beautiful, the artwork is hand drawn and works incredibly well for the 2d side scrolling adventure it sets up.
The narrator is God tier. His voice makes the atmosphere for the game so much more immersive and brutal.
The creature design and the way this game handles the stresses of adventuring is top tier too. From the monsters causing fear and stress to full blown madness when encountered. To characters breaking down and struggling with the task ahead of them.
Cons:
This is not so much a con as it is a warning. This game is tough. It can beat the hell out of your team without warning and you can lease a whole party for good with one battle.
At times combat order and effects can be frustrating but in retrospect it is fair. Just getting bleed for the 50th time does my head in.
Random attacks or events happening or deaths is also another frustration.
Overall not many cons that are an actual problem with the game. I've never encountered a bug or error in the years I've spent playing it.
Time played personaly:
150 hours.
Final score
9/10
