This movie is going to be such a disaster… It hurts my soul to see the legendarium treated this way :disappointed:

The animation is horrendous and they are just trying way to hard.

I haven't gotten too far yet but it almost reminds me of the animation in the animated lotr, which I found hilarious, but idk it just seems so hard to watch. I think if they did it in a different style it would be good.

In my opinion I’m sure it’ll be a great movie for newcomers of the Tolkien universe

I’m not sure I agree… There appears to be many elements that are out of place (including the main character), and it appears to be more made up or misinformation than anything.

I think a more true to source telling would be more beneficial to Tolkien newcomers.

Gonna watch it anyway but I'm not very excited, never really liked the anime format. But the problem with this one is the lore changes in this seem TOO far fetched or begging it to fans of the film. There's no reason why Great Eagles and mûmakil need to be in a story about Rohirrim. Plot doesn't look very compelling either. Something about romantic tension between the protagonist and that dude. I'm all for more female protagonists but I thought we left women with character arcs dependent on male relationships back in the Hobbit trilogy....

I won’t be giving this film my money period unless I hear some very positive reviews.

I agree with your take for the most part… I would also love to see more of Tolkien’s women adapted into other works.

The key thing for me though is Tolkien’s women.

I don’t want to see some made up nonexistent woman be the hero of a story she was barely mentioned in…not when there are plenty of other stories and characters that do exist they could have used.

They are telling the nonexistent story to a no name character that has zero relevance to the story outside of a single mention.

The reason why they've made an original character seems to be to tie the story together from start to finish. Would probably be awkward from Helm's POV considering he dies before the end or from Fréalaf who would lack prior setup. Personally I have no issues with additions or changes so long as they have some justification, and to me that's a sound justification but it remains to be seen whether the character will actually be compelling and I'm not that convinced so far. I like her design though.

That argument doesn’t hold weight though as they could have just given Fréaláf a larger role and made him the main character… After all it is ultimately his and Helm’s story as they are something of a foreshadowing of Théoden and Éomer.

Instead they give it to a no name daughter that has minuscule significance to the story.

I understand that they did this for diversity points, and ultimately I don’t think she’s going to be as “girl boss” as the previews would suggest… That aside however it is still a pointless direction.
