Anna was miserable alone in the castle. Most of the servants were too focused on doing their job to even share small talk with her, and the family of ducks that lived in the royal garden had no interest in the breadcrumbs she would offer them. She wanted more than just the portrait hall paintings as companions, she wanted someone whom she could explore with, someone she could talk to.
Elsa might not have responded whenever Anna had tried to talk to her through the door, but Anna assumed that she at least was always listening. Anna wanted to feel happy that her sister was being given an opportunity to leave her bedroom and go on some sort of adventure, but it made her sad that she couldn’t share the experience with Elsa.
One day, coincidentally on the fateful day that the storm hit her family’s ship, Anna decided to visit the only place where she could escape her lonely life in the castle and experience adventure: the royal library.
If I can’t go on an adventure at sea, then the least I can do is read about one…
The first book that caught Anna’s attention was a classic tale written by some Danish author. Her father even stated that it was his favorite book when he was her age. Anna had lost count of how many times Elsa would read it to her when they were little. Elsa might as well have had the story memorized with the number of times Anna would ask her to read it to her. Anna felt that reading the book she was holding would be like ing Elsa on her adventure.
Missing her sister but unaware of her current state, Anna sat down and started reading The Little Mermaid.
Author’s Notes
As a special treat, I decided to share this chapter as its own post instead of via link from a separate source! In my opinion, this short and sweet chapter could almost be a standalone one shot. In addition to this being something of a filler, it’s also a good reminder that The Little Mermaid is still involved despite most of the events have been heavily focused on the Frozen and Hercules franchises. Don’t worry, although it’s going to take a while, Ariel and her friends will show up at some point. Until then, I hope you have been enjoying this story so far. Happy Reading!
