What Does “Truscum” Mean
Truscum is what someone is called when they believe you need gender dysphoria to be trans, and if you do not have gender dysphoria you are not trans.
The opposite of this belief is tucute where you believe you do not need dysphoria to be trans
What Does “Transmed” Mean?
Transmed or transmedicalist is the term for someone who believes that trans procedures should be medicalized. They believe that hormones, gender correction surgery’s and all other trans things should be covered by insurance or by free healthcare.

How Are They Different?
Based off the definition you can clearly see how they are different. You don’t have to believe that you need to have dysphoria to be trans to believe that trans procedures should be covered by insurance.
Although it is true that a lot of truscums are also thransmeds that does not mean the words are interchangeable.

Where Did The Confusion Come From?
Personally I do not know how these things got confused as the same thing, but I can speculate.
I believe that these things got confused because it is common to see truscums also being transmeds, so when people saw people saying they were both they assumed that they were the same thing, and that they were interchangeable.

Why Is It Bad to Spread Misinformation About These ?
The term transmed is often labeled as another term for truscum, which can lead the other side to demonize the word. This leads to tucutes and transneutralists to not want to associate with the term because of the stigma.
Just generally spreading misinformation about a term that is generally a good thing to believe is not a good thing to do

Closing Thoughts
There is nothing wrong with being a transmed, honestly if more people believed the same way transmeds do we could together make it so much easier for trans people to transition.
It would help so many people to have transition costs be covered by healthcare or insurance, so stoping the misinformation and stigma around being a transmed would be a very good thing.

As a truscum and transmed thanks for this post!
The way I've seen it (and how many others who use the term define it) is transmeds do believe you need some sort of dysphoria to be trans, whilst "truscum" have similar beliefs but are much more hostile toward others (like "tucutes") about it.
Like, I use transmed to define myself because I believe medically gender dysphoria should be the defining factor in transitioning, as well as some of the things you mentioned in your post regarding insurance, etc.
I’m a trans man who hasn’t had surgery or medication, I do have dysphoria tho. I think it’s pretty unfair that people who can’t afford medication or surgery are invalidated. I can’t speak for all trans people but I think it should be funded by the government for the people who can’t afford it. Why should they be of less worthiness than people with more money? But that’s just my opinion.
Yep, definitely should
the only issue i have with transmed is that not eveyone is able to afford medication or surgery to transition. do people who believe in transmed invalidate those individuals?
I’m not quite sure what you are talking about.
Transmeds believe that hormones and surgery’s should be covered by free healthcare or by insurance, so people can afford what they need to transition
So how would that invalidate people who can’t afford what they need to transition, being a transmed would help them most
