whispers rang out through the trees
a dangerous reality could be seen
do you trust what you can’t see
or should you run among the leaves
as the sun set the forest stilled
not more than a secret spilled
and yet here you stood in the dark
heavy heart beating noting your mark
while your circle of sight grew smaller
it’s clear you tried to holler
but who could hear you
at this time of night
nothing around but your fear and fright
and as the day grew quickly quiet
the night began to stir
bring your new worry to occur
branches you couldn’t see
began to rustle with their leaves
crickets began to chirp
and wolves began to howl
it was almost a comfort
to know you weren’t alone
almost, just almost
for you knew something watched
watched in the dark
in places you couldn’t see
your skin began to crawl
as you looked among the trees
then suddenly you heard a screech
and a flapping of wings as you ducked
you yelled yourself as you turned to see
golden eyes staring back at thee

HOW MANY LICKS DOES IT TAKE TO GET TO THE CENTER OF A TOOTSIE POP???
