The Marks We Leave Behind

When I close my eyes, I still see your face

I will never forget the day you went away

I get tattoos to cover the marks you made

Not everything is permanent but the tattoos are

If only there was a tattoo for your heart

I open my eyes and you are no longer there

Silhouettes of your soul gone

The wind hits my skin

I trace the tattoos, no longer traces of you

The tattoos have healed me, I can finally breathe
