He stared from the cliff where they had first met, his gaze lingering on the familiar view. Memories rushed back, and tears welled up in his eyes.

They had been just twelve when their fathers introduced them, and for him, it had been love at first sight, though he was never allowed to show it, no matter how much he wanted to, no matter how much he needed to.

The Prince, always preoccupied and constantly ordered around, had been forced to meet girls from all over the globe, trained to become the king he was expected to be by the crowd.

The Knight, helpless, could only watch as his love slowly drifted away, slipping through his fingers but staying locked inside his heart. He had no choice but to watch the Prince grow further out of reach, and it pained him more than anything in his little world.

Enemy soldiers closed in once again, leaving him breathless as what little hope he had left slipped further away.

Sword in hand, his mind wandered, not to the battle, not to the fear, but to the Prince's eyes, blue like the clearest skies. They had been the same blue the first time their gazes met, a moment etched into the Knight's soul till death tore them apart.

It all felt hopeless, yet in that moment, he found himself gazing up at the North Star, shining so brightly above. It reminded him of the Prince. No matter where he was, no matter who he was with, the Prince always stood apart, dragging all the attention away from everyone in the Knight’s sight. And from the first time their eyes had locked, the Knight had been caught in a trap, helplessly drawn to him with no escape in sight.

His body moved on instinct, his sword clashing with the enemy's, but his thoughts remained distant. He knew it was foolish to hope, yet still, he wished the Prince would somehow realise how much he meant to him, how much he always had.

Time blurred as he fought, still standing as the Prince ran toward safety, disappearing from his sight. The Prince mourned the loss of a friend, unaware of the true cost of the Knight's sacrifice.

Then, as an enemy's sword pierced his heart, the Knight felt the last of his strength fade. But inside, he had already known this pain, already felt the wound long before.

Now emptied of all hope, he had only one thought left: the one and only love of his life. As he collapsed, he saw the Prince, or at least the hallucination of him, disappear forever, never knowing how deeply he was loved.
