Today I’m gonna be talking about a little ship called adoribull! This is a ship between Dorian Pavus and The Iron Bull from Dragon Age: inquisition.

First a little about the game. Dagon age: inquisition (or DAI) is a dark fantasy game from 2014. In this game you -the main character, can choose to either be the chosen one meant to save the world or just some unlucky soul who gets roped into doing the same.

Through the game you collect what is called companions, these are npc’s you can befriend and romance (if you fit the characters sexuality). Of the companions there are two very special ones, Dorian and Iron Bull. If you choose to romance neither Bull or Dorian they will slowly start developing a relationship to each other as you can see through party banter.

Dorian Pavus is a mage from the country if Tevinter. He was born to a wealthy and privileged family of powerful mages and he grew to become one him self. As an adult he had to flee the country because his father found out that he’s gay. This was looked down upon harshly in Tevinter especially in the higher circles of society. His dad would rather aw him brainwashed that gay.

Dorian is a lgbt+ refugee in the country the game takes place and he gives an interesting insight into the world and it’s views on lgbt+

The Iron Bull is from the Qunari, which is a race and religion that mostly consists of tall humanoids with horns. Their society is pretty much a fantasy version of communism but with a twist. In their society romantic relationships are abolished, it’s just not a thing you do.

Iron Bull is what is called a tal-vashoth which means that he left the qunari to pursue a life without them and the ideals. Bull has been confirmed by writers to be pansexual and is very trans positive as you learn by getting to know his second in command who is trans.

In game their relationship is only shown through party banter but after the final dlc you get to hear about their relationship and about their not so happy ever after. Their story is very much a worlds apart meeting and the adversity they face only help pull them closer together in my opinion.

I was very excited to see such a unique portrayal in a big video game of all places, this ship brings me a lot of comfort, and happiness.

It’s such a good example of how a gay romance can be handled in mainstream media, these characters are well written and realistic (as realistic as a mage and big horned man can be)

I also met my boyfriend because of this game and we bonded over these characters and the ship and that was the best thing that could happen to me so... I got a lot of happy associations.
