In the 1954 movie, godzilla was based on the 3 dinosaurs Stegosaurus, Iguanodon and Tyrannosaurus Rex. There was also 3 designs and the one that was ultimately chose coincidentally had the skin that was similar to the conditions the nuclear bombings' victims had, making him fit into the antinuclear message even more.
