Background Image Doesn't Belong To Me
Edit: Thanks for the feature!
We often resign ourselves
To torment of which we do not control.
We often deny ourselves
The fact that there’s more than we choose to show.
Stormclouds of judgement keep us from being seen,
While thunderclaps of prejudice drown out our desperate screams.
We want to make ourselves known to those around.
But, time and time again, our words have been pushed down,
By greedy palms, and silencing fingers.
All to condemn us to their game
Whispers of warning, voices foreboding,
All to keep us quiet and tame.
Little by little, we begin to understand,
The dreadful truth that they tried to withstand.
We’re not like the others, and yet we are the same.
We think, we see, and feel the same way.
But, to them, we are foriegn; we do not belong.
It’s time that we show them that they all were wrong.
No more stormclouds, no more pain.
No more fights that we could not win.
No more fingers, no more warnings.
We will face the tide and see through morning.
For all the torment, all the tears we have cried,
Our rainbow, our spectrum of colors shall fly.
Above the heads of millions, alike us and not.
Above all our stories that we have yet sought.
Because we know there is more to come,
There is no more hiding, no need to run.
Our lives are not made to be an easy fete.
But that doesn’t mean we have to be discreet.
This is our life, we have a right to claim.
For we shouldn’t be afraid to turn and face the rain.
There is so much that was left behind.
We will never forget all the mountains we’ve climbed,
To get here to this point in time,
To follow and seize our moments of pride.
