LGBT+ Character Challenge Entry

My favourite lgbt+ character is from the American tv show Once Upon a Time. In this fantasy drama, characters from various fairytales are put under a powerful curse that transports them to a town called Storybrooke, in the real world, where they have no memory of their true identity and past lives. Growing up I never had lgbt+ icons because of a lack of representation. When I was in my early teen years I started finding movies and celebrities that were lgbt+ and these icons were very important to me. Once Upon a Time quickly became one of my absolute favourite shows and was the first tv series I watched that had lesbian characters. I made a post about all the gay characters in Once Upon a Time a while ago, but without further adieu I will reveal who my favourite character is.

Alice Jones II ~ Tilly {cursed name}

This character is a version of Alice in Wonderland, portrayed by actress Rose Reynolds. She first appears in season 7 as Tilly in the town Hyperion Heights, which is the newest location of another powerful curse that once again covered the memories of fairytale characters and transported them to the real world. Tilly begins to neglect the medication she was put on and starts waking up from the curse, however, in order for the evil character's plan to work they must get Tilly back on her medication so she doesn't realise that she is actually Alice. This character is played by the actress Rose Reynolds, who I think did an amazing job of getting into the role.

Tilly presents as female using the pronouns she/her. While her sexual orientation is never directly stated she does fall in love, and start a relationship, with another female character (Robin Hood II ~ Margot West) in season 7. This is the second lesbian relationship to appear in the series, Tilly and Robin are the 4th and 5th main lgbt+ characters on the show. The show is not overly diverse, but it was made to reflect fairytale characters as they were originally written by Disney, hence being mostly heterosexual or without a love interest.

I have always loved the story of the original Alice in Wonderland, and the show Once Upon a Time is also one of my favourite series. Because there wasn't a lot of lgbt+ representation in the media I watched as a kid it was comforting in a way to see the lesbian couples from Once Upon a Time. Tilly is very extroverted, bubbly and a kind character. I saw traits that I wanted, like her confidence, and I saw traits that we shared like her curiosity. Tilly was misunderstood by a lot of other characters, but always helped others and stayed true to herself, which I found inspiring. The fairytale backstory for this version of Alice was also really interesting because it wasn't limited to the traditional story.
