TW : topics of abuse and homophobia
Hey everyone!
Bella here, welcoming you into another informational blog. Today, I’ll be giving you advice on how to know when and how to come out; whether it be with a family member, friend, or a partner.
Let’s get into it!
┗━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┛
#1. Is your family ive? Do you have someone you can trust?
First, who are you coming out to? Are you in a safe position to come out? If your family is heavily homophobic or against the LGBT+ community, and are known to be overly reactive, even ab*sive, and you’re still living with that person, I do not recommend coming out to that person. This is due to the fact if you’re dependent on that person for food, shelter, and a home, there is a possibility they could kick you out. It’s an unfortunate topic, but something that still needs to be considered. If you’re not ready to come out to a person who isn’t ive or is a closer family member, talk to a friend or therapist you can trust.

#2. When and where do you plan on coming out?
Is it an appropriate, private place? Have you talked to the person about LGBT+ topics before? When you’re coming out, I recommend that you do it in a private environment, where you’re all setting yourself up to conversation. (Ex : sitting at a table, sitting in your bedroom.) Before you have the conversation; make sure everyone in the room you’re coming out to is ready to talk.

#3. Prepare for what you want to say.
Prepare for what you’re about to say. Think wisely about who you’re talking to and what you’re talking about. Be prepared for negative reactions from some people, but don’t be discouraged. Some people need a lot more time than others to accept your coming out. that you have the right to be who you are, regardless of others opinions.

#4. Anxiety with coming out.
, you don’t need to come out, it is your overall choice, and your freedom to do so. Some people find coming out very fulfilling and relieving; while others don’t feel the need to do so or find it as a private topic. So overall, make the decision that’s right for you. If you don’t feel comfortable coming out in person, call the person you’re coming out to, or send a letter. This allows the person you’re coming out to to take the time they need to respond and get used to the news.

#5. Do you believe someone you know is LGBT+?
If you believe someone you know is LGBT, that you cannot, and should not force them to come out, but you can create an environment where the person feels ed and safe to do so.

I always tell people wait until you have your own place that safe and secure before you come out, even if your confident you know how people will react, just in case
True!
This has been really helpful and reassuring. I often feel like I have to come out to everyone for it to be real, y’know? I’m learning that I don’t have to; this post reassures me that it’s okay not to^^
Thank you so much! I’m glad you feel that way :cupid:
