How did my parents take it?
Well, I'm lucky to have super accepting parents, but even so, their reactions weren't jumping for gay joy...
"You won't go around telling everyone, will you?"
"Why do you think that?"
"Did you have to tell us? Why not wait til it was relevant, if you actually bring agirl home?"
"Every teenager (i was 18) goes through a phase of discovering themselves."
"We just don't want you doing something you'll regret and jeopardising your future."
It wasn't great. Maybe if I'd said lesbian, instead of bi, the reactions would have been different. Less as though i was just performing a college experiment, more as though they believed this was an integral part of who I had always been.
I know my parents will always love me and me, whoever my partner is, and that they were only worried about my wellbeing in a world that doesn't like "different". I'm pretty sure they accept it, though we don't talk about sexuality much. But though I'm grateful to have a more ive family than many, I will forever wish their reactions had been more positive.
But never forget: you are loved, and

Always.

Now I'm nervous after your parents reaction XD I have ive parents like you but I'm in 6th grade and I know I'm lesbian I've felt different for years do you think it would be better sooner than later or should I wait until I get a girlfriend when I'm older?
I think if you feel ready to tell them, you should go for it...it's not fun to have to hide who you are! If your parents are ive, they might still say, oh it's a phase, but really, they just need some time to adjust their worldview. My parents are totally (mostly) over it now, my mom even casually said "if you bring someone home, guy or girl...". Your sexuality is valid and part of you, even if you aren't in a relationship! As always, make sure you have an emotionally safe space or escape person (trusted friend you can call) in case things do go less well than planned, and take your time: don't, as I did, spring it on them in a car :p Good luck!!! <3
