What is Global Warming?
╰┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈╯
Climate Change and Global Warming are often used interchangeably. They are actually two different things and both are very important!
Climate Change:
“Climate change is a long-term change in the average weather patterns that have come to define Earth’s local, regional and global climates. These changes have a broad range of observed effects that are synonymous with the term.”
Global Warming:
“Global warming is the long-term heating of Earth’s climate system observed since the pre-industrial period (between 1850 and 1900) due to human activities, primarily fossil fuel burning, which increases heat-trapping greenhouse gas levels in Earth’s atmosphere. The term is frequently used interchangeably with the term climate change, though the latter refers to both human- and naturally produced warming and the effects it has on our planet. It is most commonly measured as the average increase in Earth’s global surface temperature.”

Evidence
╰┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈╯
Global Temperature Rise
The planets average surface temperature has risen 1.62 degrees Fahrenheit or 0.9 Celsius.
This is caused largely by increased Carbon Dioxide and other human-made emissions into the atmosphere. The hottest months and years to ever be recorded have happened in the past 6 years
For specifics on ALL the evidence Click Here
Warming Oceans
The top 700 meters (2,300 feet) of the ocean have warmed more than 0.4 degrees in the past 50 years
Shrinking Ice Sheets
The Greenland Ice Sheets have lost an average of 286 billion tons of ice per year and Antarctica lost about 127 billion tons of ice a year. This all started in 1993. The rate of Antarctica’s ice mass loss has tripled in the last decade.
Glacial Retreat
“Glaciers are retreating almost everywhere around the world — including in the Alps, Himalayas, Andes, Rockies, Alaska and Africa.”
Decreased Snow Cover
“Satellite observations reveal that the amount of spring snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere has decreased over the past five decades and that the snow is melting earlier”
Sea Level Rise
“Global sea level rose about 8 inches in the last century. The rate in the last two decades, however, is nearly double that of the last century and is accelerating slightly every year.”
Declining Arctic Ice
“Both the extent and thickness of Arctic sea ice has declined rapidly over the last several decades”
Extreme Events
Record high temperature events have been increasing while record low temperature events have been decreasing. Along with these, the US has witnessed an increasing number of intense rainfall events
Ocean Acidification
The acidity on the surface of the water has increased by about 30%. This is because humans have emitted more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which led to more being absorbed into the ocean. The amount of carbon dioxide absorbed into the upper layers of the ocean is increasing by 2 billion tons a year

Causes
╰┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈╯
A lot of this is scientific, so i’ll keep this part out. If you want to know more go to the link below. All three of the links provided so far are from NASA
This Link will tell you about the causes
If you have the time, please use it to explore this website. There is so much valuable information!
Another very good website is National Oceanic and Atmospheric istration
Human Activities
Burning fossil fuels such as coal and oil has increased the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide.
“...clearing of land for agriculture, industry, and other human activities has increased concentrations of greenhouse gases.”

Effects
╰┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈╯
Click here to go straight to the effects section of Nasa’s Global Climate Change
Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner. There is a loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves.
Unfortunately, that isn’t all
Listed Below Are The Future Effects
Temperatures will continue to rise
“Because human-induced warming is superimposed on a naturally varying climate, the temperature rise has not been, and will not be, uniform or smooth across the country or over time.”
Frost-Free/Growing Season will lengthen
The length of these seasons has been increasing since the 1980’s. In some parts of the world this season has increased by 8 weeks
Changes in Precipitation Patterns
U.S precipitation has increased since 1900. Some areas (North) are greater than the national average while others (South) are lower.
More Draughts and Heat Waves
Droughts and Heatwaves in the Southwest are expected to become more intense while cold waves are expected to become less intense everywhere else.
Summer temperatures continue to rise and this reduces soil moisture and increase heat waves. “By the end of this century, what have been once-in-20-year extreme heat days (one-day events) are projected to occur every two or three years over most of the nation.”
Hurricanes Will Be Stronger/More Intense
“The intensity, frequency and duration of North Atlantic hurricanes, as well as the frequency of the strongest (Category 4 and 5) hurricanes, have all increased since the early 1980s. The relative contributions of human and natural causes to these increases are still uncertain. Hurricane-associated storm intensity and rainfall rates are projected to increase as the climate continues to warm.”
Sea Levels Will Rise 1-8 Feet By 2100
The sea level has already risen 8 inches since 1880. This is due to melting land ice and the expansion of sea water as it warms.
“...storm surges and high tides could combine with sea level rise and land subsidence to further increase flooding in many regions.”
Arctic Will Become More Ice-Free
“The Arctic Ocean is expected to become essentially ice free in summer before mid-century.”

Clicking on that link ^^ will take you to a government resource page where you have the option on clicking on several U.S Government Organizations to find more information on how to help.
These are some big things though. Maybe you’re looking for easier ways to help. As many people have said
”We don’t need a handful of people doing *zero waste* perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly”
All of the following solutions come from this link
Use Energy Wisely and Save Money
Swap gas for electric (stoves)
Unplug things when you aren’t using them
Wash clothes in cold water and hang-dry them
Look for the Energy Star label when purchasing appliances
“Winterize your home to prevent heat from escaping and try to keep it cool in the summer without an air conditioner”
Change to energy efficient light bulbs
...and more!
Eat For A Climate-Stable Planet
Eat more meat-free meals
Buy organic and local
