Autismgender, or autigender, is quite a not well known and misunderstood part of the gender spectrum. Through this post, I hope I can bring you all a better understanding of autigender and shed light on the autigender community.
First I want to make this clear that THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU IDENTIFY AS AUTISTIC!!!
What is Autigender?
· ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ · ꕥ · ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ ·
Autigender is a neurogender. Before we can fully grasp what autigender is, let’s quickly go over what neurogender is.
Neurogender is an identity that relates and is connected to one’s neurological condition. You may recognize the word “neuro” in this. This also connects to the word “neurodivergent” which specifies as a category for those who have neurological disabilities like autism, OCD, schizophrenia, epilepsy and more. Only neurodivergent people can identify as neurogender. However, not everyone who is neurodivergent identifies as neurogender. Now that we understand neurogender, it’s easier to grasp autigender.

Autigender is when someone’s autism greatly influences their gender and how they experience gender.

Just like neurogender, not all autistic people identify as autigender. In addition, autigender is an exclusive identity in that only people who are autistic can identify as autigender. Autigender DOES NOT MEAN you are identifying as autistic. So to repeat, autigender is when someone has autism and their autism influences their gender.
How does someone’s autism influence their gender?
· ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ · ꕥ · ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ ·
As most of us know, gender roles are a social construct. Those who have autism, such as myself, have trouble interpreting and understanding social constructs including gender roles. Because of this, autistic people can have a unique way of experiencing gender, understanding what it means, and how to express their own gender. For some, their gender may also be influenced by sensory experiences, since some autistic people have unique and significant sensory difficulties.
In addition, autism can be different to each autistic person. Not everyone has trouble with understanding gender roles and their own gender. Some may want to use autigender simply because they have ways in which they feel their autism influences how they feel with their gender identity.

Hopefully this has helped to educate on what autigender is. Although you may not have heard or understood it before, it’s important to let people who are autigender know that they are valid and you them. Being autistic is isolating enough so when you add struggling with your gender it makes things more difficult. When you can, please share the things you learned today with others. Spread love.

Thanks for posting this, I’m glad I could learn more about it!
np!
Comments are somethin' huh? I'll say this. Hate is unwarranted, but opposition isn't. Hate is toxic, but so is existing in an echo chamber where people only agree with you.
hi! i have done my best to leave the civil and respectfully disagreeing comments. unfortunately there were some that included inappropriate language and turned into offensive arguments. those kinds of comments are ones i decided to delete. i specified this earlier. i appreciate your opinion. people can disagree but in a civil manner. thats what im allowing on my post. hope u understand.
Interesting, though this being considered a gender is a little odd to me. I understand the concept behind it, and I get it. My brother has autism, and his views on gender and gender roles are different than what is traditional (though he doesn't personally identify as autismgender/autigender). I can definitely see how some people identify this way, and it's certainly valid in my eyes. I'm just not sure if it qualifies as a separate gender, if that makes sense. I'm not very good at properly putting my thoughts into words.
Also, thank you for the informing post. I feel like this is something that can be very easily manipulated/twisted into something different or something that may just seem different than it actually is. Easy to create misconceptions.
