Day 22 of the #springthepositivity challenge has arrived, and it brings us the topic of poems

which, if you didn't know, you should actually post your own ones of this week. Just a lil' tip, don't mind me :eyes:

My favorite poem is very unfortunately in German, but I'll try my best at translating the 'story' if you will. Actually, even if you understand German, you might still not get this poem - but we'll get to that.

I thought about re-telling it, but since it only has six lines I thought why not translate it almost word for word.

Once there was a boomerang

that was a little bit too long.

the boomerang flew a bit

but never turned back up.

the audience for hours still

waited for the boomerang.

Yeah, it sounds really awkward in english, but thats what this poem is about: A boomerang.

I discovered it a few years ago, and there hasn't been a poem that got me as much as this one since. I wish I could tell you why, but it remains a mystery to myself as well.

Maybe because it managed to confuse the hell out of me with just 24 words - not because its complicated and deep, but because its the exact opposite.

I googled around a bit to find some interpretations. Here is what the internet says about "Bumerang":

• 'I felt a bit empty after reading it. I think the boomerang symbolises hope, which humans can't hold forever'

• 'take it as a story. The boomerang was flying for a bit, and never returned. The end.'

• A boomerang doesn't work if its too long. Just like you shouldn't aim to make a boomerang super long to impress people, you shouldn't overwork your life.

Since that didn't really help and most of these opinions came from forums and weren't actual interpretations, I came to my own conclusion:

This poem is amazing. Its confusing, amusing and you could interpret the world into it if you really wanted to.

Despite seeming irrelevant and riddiculous, it is my favorite poem for a few more reasons.

My dad loves Joachim Ringelnatz, and he gave me a book with a collection of his poems. 'Bumerang' was one of them. I took to it immediately, and have never forgotten about it since.

To me, this poem is a reminder not to take life too seriously or let things in the past get in the way of who I am.
