I’m not bisexual but there are still misconceptions about bisexuals floating around so I thought I should do something for them too. Let’s get started!

1. Bisexuals are desperately unhappy seeking some kind of happiness they’ll never find

Your sexual orientation won’t make you unhappy. Like I’m happy with my sexual orientation even though I’m not straight. The only reason bisexuals would be unhappy is because of homophobia. Not because they don’t like who they are.

(And if anyone is experiencing this kind of homophobia I want to tell you that it is perfectly normal to be who you are. So just be yourself and don’t be ashamed just because some uneducated person told you something hurtful. You’re already perfect the way you are. :sparkling_heart: :purple_heart: :blue_heart: )

2. Bisexuals are just promiscuous

Liking more genders is not the equivalent to more partners. Bi is just a sexual orientation (or romantic orientation.) Being promiscuous is dependent on the person not sexual orientation.

3. Bisexuals are attracted to everyone

I’ve talked to my straight friends about lgbt and they claimed to feel awkward around bisexuals. Because they were unsure who the bisexuals had romantic feelings toward and said that the bisexuals might like everyone around them.

So I’m going to ask you a simple question to disprove this. Are you attracted to every person you see? I’m going to assume your answer is no. Well neither are bisexual people.

4. Bisexuality doesn’t actually exist

For some people being bi is a transitional phase. And that’s ok. But for a lot of people it remains as a long term orientation. And for some people who accepts bisexuality as their long term orientation may have had a transitional phase themselves that resulted in them being bisexual. But saying they are just confused and haven’t figured out if their gay or straight is just rude. It’s best to assume that people who have accepted this as their long term orientation know how they feel. Who are we to be telling them who they are?

5. Bisexuals prefer every gender equally

Research shows that a lot of bisexuals prefer one gender over the other. The number of men compared to women whom a bisexual has been involved with has no bearing on their sexual orientation. A bisexual can find something appealing about different genders.

6. Bisexuals are only attracted to male and female

Bi does mean two in most cases. Even though some bisexuals are only attracted to the masculine and feminine qualities that men and women have some can still be attracted to non-binary people that have more gender neutral qualities.
