• What are sub-teams?

I think our info team is a pretty good example of a sub-team. Staff are responsible for a lot of things, like moderating, keeping the community active, providing info, member engagement.. It becomes a lot sometimes, which is why sub-teams are created. Sub-teams are teams that focus on one specific task for an extended period of time, just like the info team focuses on providing info on the community topic( leading communities), so we can take a little load off of our staff's shoulders.

Sub-teams also are a great way to get involved in shaping the community, as it's an opportunity for them to help out, without the responsibility of the mod menu.

But isn't a sub-team just one more thing to manage? Doesn't it increase the workload?

If managed correctly, sub-teams can absolutely take the load off! Which is why I'm here to tell you all about it.

I would personally recommend to have each staff member in charge of one sub-team. That way, there won't be the chaos of someone managing three and failing to keep it organized.

When in charge of a sub-team, you need to start shaping it. What does your team do? How often do they do that? Are there any requirements for ? Only once the team is built up, you can start hiring . Make , for example, post at least once a month( or in the case of a welcome committee, try to keep track of whether or not they're actively involved with new ).

When you notice a member has been doing well for a while, you can consider asking them if they would like to become a team manager. They would keep the team running and make sure everything runs smoothly. At that point, all you have to do is occasionally discuss things with your team manager and keep track of whether or not the team is active.

That's the point where a sub-team starts paying off: it's getting managed for you and running smoothly, providing the community with content.

Important tip:

Set requirements and don't get disengaged with your team! Having a team manager doesn't mean you can entirely pull your hands off of it, it just saves staff the work of having to make those posts themselves.

This! Not everything has to be an Agent’s responsibility. We have a Welcome Committee managed by my co-Leader & are currently recruiting for an Events Committee that will be managed by me. There's also plans for more sub-teams that will be under our Curators.
