Lighting Up or Dulling Down: David’s Eyes’ theory

Okay so Episode 26 came out and this one really caught my attention:

I thought for sure that David’s eyes would glow when he removed Cody’s mask because, strong emotions, right? But they didn’t.

They got darker.

I don’t think this was a coloring mistake or anything. Because this isn’t the first time that David’s eyes have looked brown instead of their regular amber, even in emotional moments.

My next point: Episode 21.

Episode 21 theory that David’s eyes didn’t glow at all in the flashback, most likely meaning that he hadn’t gotten powers yet. Now I really agree with this theory, but you wanna know something else that I noticed?

Yup. They turned brown again. And his eyes were this color only in this part of the episode. Every other moment - except when he turned into the Demon - his eyes were their usual yellowish color.

Except here:

His eyes are orange here. In a way, orange is somewhere between yellow and brown, so it’s possible that whatever emotions cause the differences in his eye color, he was feeling a mix of them at that moment.

I thought these two episodes would be my only examples, but I ed another prime one.

Episode 9. Right after David woke up from that nightmare.

Once again, his eyes look like a regular brown color here. And I doubt it’s just ‘cause of the nighttime lighting.

Of course I didn’t think much of it when I first read this episode. But now it seems like vital evidence.

Now let’s take note of the emotions that David was most likely feeling in all of these situations:

-shock

-confusion

-anger

-sadness

-stabby

These seem like pretty strong emotions, no? And we’ve seen David’s eyes glow while he was experiencing these emotions in other situations.

So why didn’t they glow these times?

My first thought was that his eyes dull when he’s EXTREMELY distressed (unlikely, since he’s been in worse situations), but I have a better idea.

His eyes need to recharge.

I know that sounds utterly ridiculous but think about it. As of Episode 26, David had been through a ton of emotional situations that had made his eyes glow. Maybe by the time he removed Cody’s mask, his eyes just didn’t have enough energy left to glow again.

And Episode 9? C’mon, he’d just had an entire dream where he was a glowing spirit thing and encountered an entire demon. AND when he woke up his eyes glowed one more time. That must’ve drained a lot of whatever magical energy he has.

Kind of like how if you overcharge a battery, it stops working.

As for Episode 21 - like I said - I’m willing to along with Grace’s theory that David’s powers hadn’t developed yet, but here’s another arbitrary thought-

What if David’s powers were just really UNDERdeveloped, so the only thing they could do was show signs of being low charge?

IDK where the frick I’m going with this, I’m making David’s eyes sound like a phone battery.

But I’m of the firm belief that the more ridiculous a theory sounds, the more likely it is to be true. This world pretty much runs on irony 🤷🏽‍♀
