Thanda's mother, the queen of the mermaid kingdom, died when he was eleven. She taught him how to be kind and to never hunt for more than he needed. After her death, Thanda began to feel guiltier with every human he killed, until he could no longer stand it. He always starved himself until he took siren form and ate the first human being he laid eyes on.

His father, ruler of the siren kingdom, was disgusted by his son's behaviour towards his siren traits and one day, when he could no longer take it, he banished Thanda to Earth and told him not to come back until he was worthy of calling himself the prince of the Purple Sea. Thanda settled in a lake inside a forest and continued to starve himself until going mad, refusing to willingly harm anybody.
