For the past 3 months I haven't been active on KPPA at all, mainly due to my increased work and study load, I didn't have time to penpal at all.

However there was another reason that stopped me from sending out letters. Ever since I started penpaling last year, I've sent out so many letters, whether it's the first letter with a new penpal or a one time exchange.

Out of all the letters I have sent out during those exchanges, less than half sent a letter back. To put it into perspective, at one stage I had around 8 penpals, but only 3 or 4 sent me a letter back and 2 have kept up correspondence with me.

This trend keeps going, no matter how many times I find new penpals, the same thing happens again and again. If you can't penpal with me anymore, I'm 100% ok with that, just leave me a quick and short message and at least I'll know and understand why.

However the people I have encountered seem to enjoy ghosting me and that's the most unsettling feeling, it just leaves me with the impression that you're in this community for the wrong reasons etc.

So for everyone in this community who's starting to penpal or already penpaling, if for any reason you can't continue to send letters, PLEASE let your penpal know, I'm sure everyone is very understanding and we'll appreciate the fact that we've been told rather than to be left hanging.

On another note, to everyone who has sent me a letter back, thank you so much. I actually treasure all your letters because I know you all put you time, effort and money into it and you guys obviously don't appreciate to be ghosted either.

For everyone who has experienced this as well or has had it worse, I'm sending you all a virtual hug <3

Right now I'm only keeping correspondence with one of my penpals and I might start penpaling again, but I guess I won't be sending out letters first anymore ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I completely understand what you mean the very first penpal that I had ghosted me and I was literally traumatized because of it I’ve sent like 5 letters already and I’ve gotten back like 2 back

I know what you mean. I’m so tired of sending the letter first as well (i only do so when i check their page and see if they already have a ppwm or the list where they show how many letters were sent). Overall i had 16? Penpals and i cut it down to 8 bc the other ones left this amino, or are ghosting me.

They could at least say that they can’t afford it rn or that they are not allowed to etc...

Anyways, the letters are gone and so is my wasted time :)

That's unfortunate to hear you've had such an experience yourself but yes i do think it's bet for them to tell us upfront that they can't penpal anymore, especially when you put in so much effort into your letters :(
