how come for questions in Korean there is no change in subject either?
the question and answer look the same, yet in English subject changes from “you” to “I” does it just not use/need a subject in Korean?
ah good question! I’ll use the sentence “펜이 있어요” as an example. in this sentence, the pen is actually the subject! as you become more advanced, you’ll learn how to tell the difference between the subject and object, but basically a direct translation of this sentence would be “Pen exist?”. it sounds funky, but “있어요” is used to indicate that there is something or that something exists. I apologize for making it confusing, a better real translation for “펜이 있어요” would be “Is there a pen?” because the sentence doesn’t specify a person, it’s only asking about the pen. hopefully this helps!
