Here's one thing that causes me to get hooked on a musical/album: Versatility. Basically, I like being able to listen to a song on different occasions.
Happy/Chill : Hand in my Pocket
Sad/Need cheering up : That I would be Good
Angry at a specific person : You Oughta Know
Angry at the general unfairness in society: No
There are a lot of songs in this show that I like, but these are the ones that really speak out to me.
I'm usually into mainstream theatre, but this musical is just too good to ignore. It's got an amazing storyline and SOOOOOO many issues highlighted that need addressing. It isn't afraid to call out the things society's decided to normalise.
Long story short, I went into that theatre not expecting for it to be anything more than a heartwarming Broadway show. Instead, I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat, waiting for the next song, wondering how much more depth there could be to this thing.
If people just give JLP a chance, I think they'd be blown away by it.
Thanks for reading and, in the name of Fox News, Amen.
