Photo Manipulation :

Photo manipulation is the act of using your

creative imagination to come up with endless

ideas that often end up leading to a consistent

theme.

You may Change the background of the picture,

Turn it into something it wasn't before. Use your

Creative mind to create something you want.

You need to take care of every single detail, let it be

Changing the picture's theme entirely.

Examples :

Highlighting / Retouching

In a portrait photo, you

need to make the skin smooth, reduce or

eliminate lines and wrinkles, remove glasses

glare, even some stray hairs.

An editor decides that he [or she] needs

to increase the brightness, enhance the contrast,

add saturation to the image and shift colours.

Add some shinny outlines. This is known as highlighting.
