Hey everyone! So I did this challenge in 2019 with Lolly because she kinda felt like my horse and I cared for her and rode her a lot. Now Lolly is sold :) So I am going to be doing this challenge with my a new, and officially my horse. So let’s get started!

His name is Tango

He is an anglo-Arabian

he is 6 yrs old

Tango’s previous owner bought him from a kill pen where he was with his mom in spring of 2020. He was not trained at all so she sent him to a trainer who he was with for a few months. He had improved so much so she put him for sale as she did not have enough time for him.

One day I was looking on Equinenow.com and I saw this little gelding and I just fell in love after reading about him. So I messaged the seller and was asking if he was still for sale. She said “Someone is coming to look at him tomorrow but if they aren’t interested I can let you know.” So I said “okay” and waited for a response. Later the next day the seller messaged me and said “hey, so the people want to do a pre-purchase exam on Tango so they are most likely buying him.” I was disappointed but I said “alright, let me know if they change their mind.” Fast forward almost two weeks, I am sick and don’t feel very good so my friend texts me a really sweet prayer and two seconds after I read the prayer I got another text message that said “hey, tango is back up for sale because the buyers backed out for personal reasons before the vet exam.” I was so happy and asked her if I could come over to see him sometime. Two days later I feel much better and my mom, my trainer, and I all head over to the barn Tango is at. Tango was a sweet heart, the ride went great, my trainer loved him, the people answered every single question I had, and I was in love. My mom told the seller that we would like to do a pre-purchase exam and they said that was completely fine.

So we called the vet and set up a pre-purchase exam for the following Thursday. Then my mom and I went on our search for hay since our neighbor was all out, and our other neighbor doesn’t sell horse hay. We found a place for hay and Tango’s seller said we could come and ride Tango the next day if we’d like and I was welcome to bring my best friend who I will call Bri.

The next day we pick up Bri to go ride Tango and all goes well except I make a stupid mistake and end up falling off tango :joy: I will explain a little later, it was not his fault at all though. Bri really liked him though and she was excited for me.

I haven’t had Tango for very long but from what I can tell right now he is very smart, wants to please, loyal, goofy, and an overall sweetheart and I am super excited for the future with him!

I ride English and western but Tango was pretty much just trained in English. Once he gets used to the jumps he loves jumping. His seller said they have ridden him in a western saddle and he didn’t mind at all. I plan on doing liberty with Tango, some dressage to help his training and balance, lots of trail riding and hopefully next spring and summer I can do the jumping.

Tango has not done any shows as he is much too green for one but hopefully in the future we can do some pleasure shows and maybe some jumping shows.

A funny story... hmm this wasn’t super funny for me but I’m sure that for anyone watching it might have been. So the second time I rode Tango my friend Bri came with. When I was getting ready to mount tango, Bri offered to hold him for me. My stupid self said “no, it’s okay.” And I proceeded to get ready to get on. I had gotten my first foot in the stirrup and was about to swing my other leg over when tango decided to take a small step forward and my stupid mounting block tipped over and freaked him out so he started cantering and I landed sloppily on him and wasn’t even in the saddle, but instead I was on his butt. He hated that and started running even faster and i was just sitting on his butt hanging on for dear life. Tango didn’t buck or anything but I slid off of him like butter on a frying pan (great simile I know) and was there lying on the ground while tango started running toward the barn. Someone caught him for me and I was able to calm him down and get back on him (this time I had Bri hold him :joy: ). The rest of the ride went well and uneventful and Bri really liked him so I was happy about that lol.
