Ignore the quality, I rushed this at 3 in the morning 🥲. I’ve been horribly sick on and off since December and making art is difficult lately so I’m definitely moving slower than a lot of other Makeover participants, forgive me
Here’s a quick story to really introduce Hermey’s owner, Onyx, as I didn’t really do much in the first prompt
The clicking of his stall lock made Hermes’s head pop up from his feed bucket he’d been eating from, ears pinning back in anticipation at who was about to enter his stall. He’d been at Black Water Ridge for months, but still occasionally anticipated the abuse he’d endured at his last home or to see his previous owner walk into his stall. Instead, the familiar face of his new owner, a much smaller person than his last, walked into the stall. As usual, they closed the stall behind them and sat in the corner furthest from Hermes, book propped in their lap as they sat.
They’d been doing this every day after school, whether it be in his paddock or stall. Giving him the option to approach when he felt comfortable. It’d been months and while he’d approached a few times and sniffed around them, he’d never stuck around long.
Today was different though. The Brumby Sport Horse approached with a wary expression as usual, ears pricked forward in curiosity. He sniffed at the chains dangling from their jeans, the laces looped through their yellow converse, and finally reached their hand. A loud sniffing sound was the only noise coming from him as he investigated them before hesitantly pressing his nose to their hand. Shying away from the touch for a moment before returning once again, pressing his velvety grey nose into their hand again and settling into their touch as they gently pet his nose.
“See buddy, it’s not so bad.“ Onyx‘s voice was gentle as to not spook him, their free hand moving slowly to their pocket before pulling out a small apple flavored treat. The stallion’s ears pricked at the object in their hand, his nose sniffing at it thoroughly before gently taking it from them and taking a few steps back before chewing on the soft treat quietly. He returned shortly after, nudging at their hand as if asking for more. This action drew a soft giggle from Onyx, the stallion beginning to act like himself rather than a frightened and scared horse was the best thing they could’ve seen.
He still has a lot of progress, but they can’t wait to see how far he progresses now that he’s warming up.
