Sunsets from a star long accepted

A sun, so destructive, held together by chaos and flame

Make way for the life‑long accepted

It burns me when it shines

“See me,” it says each morning and every night

But I do see you, little sun of mine

I gaze into you,

burning myself in the process

I beg for cloudy days

so that I don’t have to burn

I crave the rain

that quenches my fire and my skin

But on those days I miss you the most:

my warmth, my love, my sun,

you give me life

Why can’t I make up my mind?

Do I want to burn in your light

or beg you to come back in the rain?

Sunsets are the answer:

fleeting moments in which

we can both look upon each other

and embrace the time, however short

to breathe and break from the chaos of the day

Sunsets remind me of the second I choose to take for myself:

the ending of my day, which I can’t go without

a person so destructive

held together by chaos and fire

only truly calm when the day ends

and I can finally rest

from this burning ache in my body,

one I just so happen to make:

a self‑destructive force

that makes way for the life I live

and the love I have to give

Only moments do I feel the rain

as it trickles down my cheek

into my clothes and body

and then I beg for the burn,

the numbness that comes with the scars,

the sensitive sensation after the fact;

I’m just too blind to stop it

so I beg you, dear sun of mine:

lighten my days,

burn me so I can be numb

to the rain I pour

and the feelings I feel,

make way for my life

with the fire and chaos

that makes us all
