The Trios

Hello everyone! I hope everyone has been enjoying the Triwizard Tournament this year so far. Today, from brief descriptions to poetic art, Team Hogwarts will be taking you in for a deeper dive into the series most well known trios!

First off, we have the Legendary Trio. And now this isn’t much of a question, but for those wondering “who is the Legendary Trio?” you’ve come to the right place. The Legendary Trio consists of our best and brightest Professors who played a pivotal role within our protagonist's life. These three Professors are: Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, and Severus Snape. Each of these professors, no matter the method, worked in ways that ensured they were guiding the school and its students through the most perilous times.

Secondly, we have The Golden Trio. Undeniably, it is the heart of the series as it consists of our three protagonists, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. These three represent the core fundamentals of their house of Gryffindor by defining bravery, friendship, and determination by standing together through every trial they’ve come across regardless of the obstacles. Even when disagreements came about, they still found their way through. From facing a fully grown mountain troll to gathering horcruxes, their journey is one of growth, adventure and unwavering loyalty.

Finally, we have the Silver Trio. Though often hidden behind the shadows of the two other trios listed above, the Silver Trio has come through time and time again in the midst of this war. The Silver Trio consists of Neville Longbottom, Luna Lovegood, and Ginny Weasley. Their stories, while less told, are still very much notable and hold layers of hidden struggles and intrigue.

The Legendary Trio is the literal backbone of the series, without them, who knows where most of these students would be? The Legendary Trio consists of Albus Dumbeldore, Minerva McGonagall, and Severus Snape. All three played critical roles in both the first and second wizarding war during Voldemort’s rise.

𝑨𝒍𝒃𝒖𝒔 𝑫𝒖𝒎𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒅𝒐𝒓𝒆

Albus Dumbledore, where to begin honestly. We all know he’s the Heaster of Hogwarts and has been for Merlin knows how long. He’s renowned for his wisdom and his magical prowess, being regarded as the most powerful of his time. His leadership is instrumental, but it’s quite apparent that the actions he took to reach his goals were not amongst many heroes would generally take. But I believe that’s what makes Dumbeldore feel more human as well. He makes very difficult, very grey decisions. And yes, they weren’t the best, but nothing is black and white, not even in war. And for Dumbledore, clearly the ends justifies the means. His complex past, including his relationship with Grindlewald added a lot of depth to his character.

𝑴𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒂 𝑴𝒄𝑮𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒍𝒍

Minerva. The Baddie in a hattie. As Deputy Heistress, Transfiguration professor, and Head of Gryffindor House, she serves as a pillar of strength for students and staff alike. Though she can arch her brow and send looks that can kill, she is deeply comionate, always looking out for her students’ well-being. Her complex personality balances authority with warmth, making her one of the most respected figures at Hogwarts. Throughout the series, McGonagall demonstrates her courage and tactical brilliance, particularly during the Battle of Hogwarts, where she leads the defense of the castle with fierce determination. Her ability to duel effectively against powerful Dark Wizards, such as Severus Snape, proves that she is not only an exceptional educator but also a formidable combatant.

McGonagall’s loyalty to Dumbledore and Hogwarts is unwavering, and she becomes one of the most active resistors against Voldemort’s rule. After Dumbledore’s death and Snape’s brief tenure as Heaster, she steps up as the de facto leader of the school, ensuring the safety of students in a time of great darkness. Her leadership, intellect, and bravery make her an essential part of the fight against Voldemort, securing her place as one of the most influential witches in the wizarding world.

𝑺𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒖𝒔 𝑺𝒏𝒂𝒑𝒆

Now Severus. I can write an entire thesis on this man. I know he’s a very controversial character in the series (I understand why, but I also believe there’s WAY worse out there.) Anywho. Severus Snape is a Half-Blood wizard born to Eileen Prince and Tobias Snape. Severus’ expertise in magic is shown at a young age, no doubt his mother taught him everything he knew. From his ability to crafting spells and perfecting potions at a young age to mastering skills such as Occulumency to such an extent that even Voldemort couldn’t read his thoughts. I think it’s fair to say that our Potion’s Master here was a prodigy who got very little recognition, and when it did, it was used for people’s motives rather than for simple praise.

His character is marked by its complexity and ambiguity, often more than not thought to be the antagonist within the series by our protagonists, especially towards our hero, Harry Potter. However, as the story unfolds, it is reveal that Severus’ actions are driven by a deep loyalty, a deep love which remained unreturned by the protagonist’s mother, Lily Evans. Guilt-ridden as he believed himself to be the sole cause of her death, Severus spends the rest of his life as a double-agent, risking his livelihood to protect Harry Potter and ultimately contributing to his old master’s downfall.

The Trio, also known as the Golden Trio, consisted of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ronald Weasley, who were best friends and former Gryffindor students at Hogwarts. They played a key role in the Second Wizarding War, ing the Order of the Phoenix and Dumbledore’s Army. As adults, they helped reform the British Ministry of Magic and each received a Chocolate Frog Card in recognition of their achievements.

𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫

Harry Potter is a half-blood wizard, born on July 31, 1980, in Godric’s Hollow. A prophecy predicted that a boy born at the end of July would have the power to defeat Voldemort.

On Halloween night in 1981, Voldemort killed James and Lily, but Lily’s love for Harry protected him, causing Voldemort’s Killing Curse to backfire. Harry survived and became known as the “Boy Who Lived,” while Voldemort’s soul latched onto Harry, giving him some of Voldemort’s powers.

Harry was sent to live with the Dursleys, his cruel aunt and uncle, at 4 Privet Drive. The Dursleys, being Muggles, despised magic and kept Harry unaware of his true identity as a wizard. But on his 11th birthday, he learned he was a wizard when Rubeus Hagrid delivered his Hogwarts acceptance letter.

Harry attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1991 to 1997. He was sorted into Gryffindor, where he met Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Throughout his first year, Harry uncovered the mystery of the Philosopher’s Stone and stopped Voldemort from harnessing its power. In his second year, Harry faced the challenges of the Chamber of Secrets, discovering the truth behind the attacks on students and ultimately defeating the basilisk. The third year introduced Sirius Black, who was revealed to be Harry’s godfather and wrongfully imprisoned. Harry’s fourth year was marked by his unexpected participation in the Triwizard Tournament, by the end of which he witnessed the return of Lord Voldemort. The fifth year brought the formation of Dumbledore’s Army, a student group led by Harry to oppose the oppressive regime of Dolores Umbridge. Harry lost his godfather Sirius black during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. In his sixth year, Harry delved into Voldemort’s past. He also witnessed the assassination of Albus Dumbledore at the hands of Severus Snape. The seventh year was overshadowed by the rise of Death Eaters, leading to the Battle of Hogwarts, where Harry played a pivotal role in the defeat of Voldemort.

After leaving Hogwarts, Harry became an Auror at the Ministry of Magic, working to maintain peace in the wizarding world. He later became the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, continuing his efforts to combat dark forces. Harry married Ginny Weasley, and they had three children: James Sirius Potter, Albus Severus potter, and Lily Luna Potter. The family settled in Godric’s Hollow.

Hermione Granger is a muggle-born witch, born on 19th September 1979. At age eleven, Hermione discovered she was a witch and excitedly prepared for Hogwarts by studying magic. By the time she started in 1991, she had already learned several spells and had more knowledge of the wizarding world than many of her peers.

Hermione attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1991 to 1997. She was sorted into Gryffindor House, though the Sorting Hat considered placing her in Ravenclaw due to her exceptional intellect. She quickly became known for her academic prowess and dedication to her studies. She formed a strong friendship with Ron and Harry after they worked together to thwart a troll in the school. Throughout the year, Hermione played a pivotal role in uncovering the mystery of the Philosopher’s Stone, showcasing her resourcefulness and bravery. In her second year, Hermione continued to excel academically. She was instrumental in researching on the Chamber of Secrets but was petrified by the basilisk. During her third year, Hermione’s academic excellence continued, and she became a member of the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare (S.P.E.W.), advocating for the rights of house-elves. Hermione played a crucial role in rescuing Sirius Black and Buckbeak, demonstrating her courage and loyalty. In her fourth year she ed Harry and was imprisoned by sea creatures during the Triwizard Tournament. During her fifth year, Hermione co-founded Dumbledore’s Army, a secret group dedicated to teaching students practical Defense Against the Dark Arts. She showed her academic excellence in the O.W.L. examinations and she was involved in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. In her sixth year, Hermione focused on her N.E.W.T. classes and worked hard to achieve her academic goals and got together with Ron. Hermione’s resourcefulness was further demonstrated when she, along with Harry and Ron, embarked on a dangerous mission to locate and destroy Voldemort’s Horcruxes. This quest was crucial in weakening Voldemort’s power and ultimately leading to his defeat.

After graduating from Hogwarts, Hermione ed the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, where she worked tirelessly to improve the rights and conditions of house-elves and other magical beings. Her dedication to justice and equality led her to become the Minister for Magic, a position she held for several years, during which she implemented significant reforms to promote fairness and equality in the magical community. In her personal life, Hermione married Ron Weasley, and the couple had two children: Rose and Hugo.

Ron Weasley is a pure-blood wizard, born on March 1, 1980. He grew up with his six siblings Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, and Ginny at The Burrow in Devon, England. The Weasley family were not very wealthy and so he was home schooled by his mother in reading, writing, and basic mathematics. Ron developed a close bond with his brothers, especially Fred and George.

Ron attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1991 to 1997. He was sorted into Gryffindor house where he met Harry and Hermione. During his first year he was instrumental in helping Harry, including the encounter with the troll in the dungeon. Ron also played a crucial role in the game of wizard’s chess, where he sacrificed himself to ensure Harry and Hermione’s victory. In his second year, Ron helped in solving the mystery of the Chamber of Secrets and saved his younger sister, Ginny Weasley, who was possessed by Tom Riddle’s diary. Ron also faced his fear of spiders when he went into the Forbidden Forest to confront Aragog. In his third year Ron’s pet rat, Scabbers, went missing, leading to tensions between him and Hermione, whose new cat, Crookshanks, was suspected of harming Scabbers. The situation escalated when Scabbers reappeared, and Ron was dragged into the Whomping Willow by a large black dog, which was later revealed to be Sirius Black in his Animagus form. He later discovered that Scabbers was actually Peter Pettigrew, an Animagus who had betrayed Harry’s parents. In his fourth year, Ron’s felt overshadowed by Harry’s success in the Triwizard Tournament. However, he eventually reconciled with Harry and ed him during the challenges. In his fifth year, Ron was a founding member of Dumbledore’s Army. He also took part in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. In his sixth year Ron became Gryffindor Quidditch team’s Keeper. On the other hand, Ron’s relationship with Hermione became strained when he began dating Lavender Brown. However, after he was poisoned, Ron and Hermione got together. The following year Ron ed Harry and Hermione on a mission to locate and destroy Voldemort’s Horcruxes. Throughout this journey, Ron faced numerous challenges. At one point, overwhelmed by frustration and the locket’s dark influence, Ron temporarily abandoned the group. However, he soon realized his mistake, returned, and played a crucial role in rescuing Harry from a frozen pond and destroying the Horcrux. He also played a significant part in the eventual demise of Lord Voldemort. The war took a personal toll on Ron, especially with the tragic loss of his brother, Fred Weasley, during the final battle.

After the war Ron became an Auror at the Ministry of Magic, contributing to the efforts to capture remaining Death Eaters and restore peace to the wizarding world. After a few years, he decided to leave the Ministry and ed his brother George at Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, the joke shop in Diagon Alley. Ron also married Hermione, and together they had two children: a daughter named Rose and a son named Hugo.

We all know the Golden Trio, Harry, Ron, and Hermione, are iconic and hold the top spot, however there’s another trio that comes close in of impact: The Silver Trio. This group, consisting of Neville, Luna, and Ginny, doesn’t formally come together until later in the series, but they make a significant mark in their own right. Their collective strength and memorable moments have earned them the title of the second-best trio, often referred to as the Silver Trio.

Neville Longbottom is a pure-blood wizard, born on July 30, 1980. He is the son of two Aurors, Frank and Alice Longbottom. Neville was born just a few hours before Harry Potter, a boy whose name would one day echo across history, though neither of them knew it yet.

Neville was related to prominent wizarding families and had parents who were of the Order of the Phoenix. They defied Voldemort multiple times but were tortured into insanity using the Cruciatus Curse by Death Eaters Bellatrix Lestrange, her husband Rodolphus Lestrange, her brother-in-law Rabastan Lestrange, and Barty Crouch Jnr, leaving them unable to recognize Neville, who was then raised by his stern grandmother, Augusta Longbottom.

Neville Longbottom attended Hogwarts from 1991–1998, where he was sorted into Gryffindor. Initially, Neville was a shy and clumsy student, often lacking confidence in his magical abilities. Despite these challenges, he excelled in Herbology and gradually became more proficient in other areas of magic. His involvement in Dumbledore’s Army (D.A.), a student group led by Harry to oppose the oppressive regime of Professor Umbridge, was pivotal in boosting his confidence and skills. Neville participated in significant battles, including the Battle of the Department of Mysteries and the Battle of the Astronomy Tower. During the Battle of Hogwarts, he demonstrated remarkable bravery by destroying Voldemort’s final Horcrux, the snake Nagini, using the Sword of Gryffindor.

Following the Second Wizarding War, Neville married Hannah Abbott, a former Hufflepuff student who became the landlady of the Leaky Cauldron. The couple resided above the pub. Neville returned to Hogwarts as the Herbology professor, a role in which he thrived, sharing his ion for magical plants with new generations of students. He maintained close friendships with his former classmates and was named the godfather to Harry Potter’s second son, Albus.

Luna Lovegood is a pure-blood witch, born on February 23, 1981. As the only child of Xenophilius and Pandora Lovegood. When Luna was 9 years old her mother died while experimenting with a spell that she created. Since she witnessed her mother’s death, she was able to see Thestrals.

Luna attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where she was sorted into Ravenclaw House. She was a year below Harry Potter and became a member of Dumbledore’s Army, contributing her unique perspective and skills. Luna participated in significant events, including the Battle of the Department of Mysteries and the Battle of Hogwarts, where she demonstrated bravery and loyalty.

After the Second Wizarding War, Luna pursued a career as a magizoologist, studying magical creatures. She married Rolf Scamander, the grandson of Newt Scamander, and they had twin sons, Lorcan and Lysander. Luna continued her work in magizoology, contributing to the understanding and conservation of magical creatures.

Ginevra “Ginny” Weasley is a pure-blood witch, born on August 11, 1981, and is the youngest child and only daughter of Arthur and Molly Weasley. She has six older brothers: Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, and Ron.

Ginny began her first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1992, where she was sorted into Gryffindor House. Initially, she had a crush on Harry, which led her to act shy and reserved. However, over time, Ginny developed into a confident and skilled witch. She became a talented Quidditch player, playing as a Chaser for the Gryffindor team. Ginny also ed Dumbledore’s Army, a student group formed to oppose the oppressive regime of Professor Umbridge. She participated in significant events, including the Battle of Hogwarts, where she demonstrated exceptional bravery and combat skills.

After the Second Wizarding War, Ginny and Harry Potter got together and eventually married. They had three children: James Sirius Potter, Albus Severus Potter, and Lily Luna Potter. Ginny pursued a career in professional Quidditch, playing for the Holyhead Harpies. After playing for many years as a professional Quidditch athlete, she retired to focus on her family. Ginny then became the senior Quidditch correspondent for the Daily Prophet, the wizarding world’s leading newspaper. In this role, she covered major events, including the 2014 Quidditch World Cup.

The Silver Trio
