Hey it's Alex here with a new fic for deo. I wrote something humanized for Bella this time round because I stand firm to the decision that every Death Eater - including Voldemort - had nice memories during their youths. This is just one piece that I think might've happened during Bella's years. I hope you like it =D

The grassy terrain in front of the Black Lake was the best place to hide whenever Bella wanted to escape from classes. Binns was absolutely useless as a teacher, and frankly, Bella was smart enough to understand everything without even studying.

(No, that was a lie. It was because of her little sister’s constant badgering that made her the genius she was today. If anyone asked, she would’ve gone with the first answer but no one really did ask - everyone was afraid of her.)

Bella fiddled with her wand, twirling it around her fingers as a gust of wind blew around her, rousing the leaves on the tree behind her to rustle quietly. It was the sort of day that Bella liked to skip classes on, the kind where there wasn’t any rain, snow or even just clouds blocking the sun. Bella wasn’t the type of person to like basking in the sun, but when you went without something for so long, it was only a matter of time before you longed for it.

It was the crunch of the grass behind her that placed Bella on guard. Damn - she always seemed to forget that Cissa’s physical abilities increased during the exam period (mainly to drag her into the library to study, and she was not having it). Bella reached for her carelessly strewn bag on the lawn, her body already angled towards the castle before catching sight of brown, unruly hair - Andy’s hair.

Andy gave a grin at Bella’s relaxed expression, looking once behind her shoulder before crouching down. “Don’t look so pleased - Cissa’s coming along with reference books already,” she whispered. “It’s too late to save myself, but you still have a chance.”

“What’s the point?” Bella muttered savagely, throwing herself back upon the grass before folding her hands behind her head. All her energy had dispersed the moment she heard anything remotely close to studying. “We both know Cissa’s only going to pay her fanclub to search for the both of us.”

“You mean she’s going to ask Lucius to search for us,” Andy sniggered, settling down next to Bella.

ㅤ

ㅤ

“Who else?” Balla snorted. Thoughts of the man running around trying to please her sister was enough to make her snicker quietly by Andy’s side. “If Cissa told him to spend the night in the Astronomy Tower, he would.”

ㅤ

“He already spent tons on this ridiculous breed of owls he overheard her talk about once.” Andy sounded amused. “And she only commented one line about it!”

ㅤ

ㅤ

“He should’ve brought her a book on cookery,” Bella said dryly. “Cissa can’t cook even if her life depended on it.”

ㅤ

ㅤ

“It’s funny how she can preform everything elegantly, yet look like Hagrid in the kitchen.”

ㅤ

ㅤ

“Just because the taste doesn't suit you does not mean it’s inedible.” The excuse - one that they've heard for years to come - was so familiar that Bella barely tried to come up with anything to argue with her. She only cocked her head towards the source of Cissa’s voice and nodded her head, her eyes closed.

Andy gave an incredulous snort but said nothing more. Cissa moved next to Bella’s other side, settling comfortably - or what ed for it - on the grass. The heavy thud of dusty, boring old textbooks landing on the grass made Bella’s groan of suffering ring throughout the air.

“You sound like Sirius, groaning and moaning so dramatically like that,” Andy commented.

ㅤ

ㅤ

“It’s to make up for us snakes missing legs,” Bella said, pushing herself up on her elbows, glowering heavily at Cissa’s meaningful look towards the books. “And failing isn’t something thats going to happen, Cissa. Stop acting like my grades are plummeting down Salazer’s pipeline.”

ㅤ

Cissa averted her eyes, casting her gaze towards the Black Lake. It was shimmering lightly underneath the sun, the surface rippling from the rocks Andy threw. The only noise that dominated the space were the sounds of the rocks hitting the water, and the occasional tentacle-wave Terry gave. The lazy afternoon was one they rarely got - they only had it by skipping classes, courtesy of Bella - and they could either let it go to waste, or make the most of it.

“Yes, perhaps you’re right.” Cissa’s voice was softer now, as if she was in some sort of drift. She removed the hand she placed on top of the books and ed a pebble towards Andy’s empty hand. “A break every now and then wouldn’t be too much of a problem.”

ㅤ

“Good.” Bella plopped herself back into her previous position, trying to make herself comfortable again as best as she could. The gentle rustling of trees overhead was a gentle lullaby that soothed the three of them, the sunshine basking them in a warm sunlit glow. It wasn’t until dinnertime did Andy rouse a grouchy Bella from her slumber, and it was the first time she had ever witnessed prim and proper Cissa fall from a tree, bruising her arm in the process.

It was one of the few, peaceful moments they shared, and it was one that stayed with them unfailingly. It was a rare peace they hardly came across even as they ventured into adulthood, where responsibilities and differences of opinions wedged a gap between them. It was a memory the three of them thought of bitterly in their later years, and never was it ever brought up again in their lifetime.

Ignorance was bliss when one bothered to forget. It wasn't that hard a try.
