Halloo hpa people! This is my entry for the #SlytherinReputation debate and I'll be debating AGAINST Slytherin because I think that Slytherin's reputation is well deserved. Just don't start attacking me all the Slytherins out there, this is just based on Slytherins as a whole.

House Traits
First of all, We'll talk about the house traits of Slytherin which are cunningness, ambition, resourcefulness, determination, pride, self preservation and shrewdness.
These traits are not evil in themselves but perhaps usually someone who has or values these particular traits turns out to be a dark wizard. For example Voldemort had the Slytherin trait of self preservation. The desire to never die drove him to create the Hocruxes. Draco Malfoy had ambition which led him to become a Death Eater and try to kill Dumbledore( I know he had no choice but initially Draco was thrilled about it). So in these ways, people possessing Slytherin traits might tend to gravitate more towards the evil side.

Dark Wizards
A house will always be judged by its . It is stated that Hufflepuff has the least amount of dark wizards(probably because of their just trait not sweet or kind. Those aren't Hufflepuff traits. But that's a talk for another day) while Slytherin has the highest amount of dark wizards. If I correctly Ron even said that there wasn't a bad wizard who wasn't in Slytherin. That's not necessarily true since Peter Pettigrew but it shows how many dark wizards belong to Slytherin. Voldemort was in Slytherin and he became the top dark wizard in the Wizarding World which damaged Slytherin's reputation even more. In addition to that,Many Death Eaters were also in Slytherin. So the of Slytherin house contributed greatly to its reputation.

Founder
Now we shall talk about our dear old sneaky Salazar Slytherin. The founder of Slytherin house himself wasn't a very pleasant person was he? The four founders were living peacefully but noo Salazar had to cause drama. He was the one who insisted that only Purebloods be allowed in Hogwarts. And before leaving the school,He created the Chamber of Secrets which held the basilisk. And when Slytherin's true heir would arrive at Hogwarts then he would use the basilisk to kill all the muggleborns in the school. Now THAT is seriously evil. So if the founder of Slytherin was such a messed up dude you can't blame people for thinking Slytherins are evil.

Blood Purity
Another defining characteristic of Slyhterins is that most of them believe Purebloods to be superior to others so much that even the to its common room was once pureblood. When Harry said he was a Slytherin,Scabior remarked that he was lucky since muggleborn Slytherins are rare. Malfoy and other Slytherins constantly bully muggleborn and insult them. Even Salazar Slytherin left Hogwarts because of a disagreement between the founders since he only wanted purebloods to be itted to the school. So that's why the muggleborns and halfbloods might not like Slytherin and be wary of Slytherins in general.
That's it for this debate blog. I hope you enjoyed it. I will make it clear that I do not feel that every Slytherin is evil but I can't blame others for labelling the house as evil. Stereotypes aren't accurate but they are always there. Slytherin house has done many things that have made people think of them like that. And yes I used that Slytherin banner header to mock them of how they couldn't win the house cup HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAHAHAH
Anyway bye!!

I love to see people participating in the current debate, well done
Same! Thank you
Forgot to add this point but they were the only house to not participate at all in the Battle of Hogwarts. So yeah they are kinda not good

It's been a while since I read that book but I don't McGonagall saying those lines :sob: What I was that Pansy had said that they should give Harry to voldemort so McGonagall got the whole house out of Hogwarts first

No worries I wasn't pointing at you! And I agree it was Mainly because of what Pansy said but yk why locking away all Slytherins when only Pansy said that ? It was implied and said, Minerva didn't say it directly !

Oh well I didn't understand the implication :sob:
Before the end of Voldemort and Battle of Hogwarts, it's has always been a very aristocratic house.
I loved the read, Bamsel! You made very accurate points!
