이제야 깨달아 𝖲𝖮 𝖨 𝖫𝖮𝖵𝖤 𝖬𝖤

𝗧𝗢𝗣𝗜𝗖 DEBATE :bouquet:

As we see in the Harry Potter series ,

Slytherin's   house    has been coined

with . like ambitious , cunning ,

resourcefulness         and so on more

which does not conclude the linkage

of negative      associations   like dark

magic ,       evilness. Salazar Slytherin

brought up the house in name of their

ambitious      and cunning traits which

are not inheritably negative.       It sure

had made a        bad effect in of

disregarding   muggleborns to be part

of Slytherin by   Salazar's wishes. Tom

riddle a smart     student who used his

powers to overrule       the coward and

put an end to the brave         had surely

made another strike to the outlook of

Slytherins .

But let us   not forget other houses are

too habe     bad seeds in them , we see

how james     and sirius bullied snape ,

we have seen how hufflepuffs without

any strong judgement        pointer their

fingers at harry during his second year.

We need to       realize the stereotypical

nature of looking at Slytherin shouldnt

be based on just people               but the

upbringings. Tom Riddle aka Voldemort

had forced families especially slytherin

purebloods to     either be his servant or

face death. And     im sure no mother or

father would ever want to see blood on

their child or the     stiff souless body of

their loved ones.    Surely it was hard for

any family to be a servant for Voldemort

just to have    another loving dinner with

their family .

We see    how some highlighting people

like      Severus Snape    and Andromeda

Tonks disregards      the prejudice of the

Slytherin house         by staying loyal and

brave than       any gryffindor till their last

breath.       The complex nature of Snape

protecting        Harry even being at death

door just to be        opened by Voldemort

if he knew                Severus was sending

messages to         Dumbledore was like a

rose full of thorns     but beauty of loyalty

inside for a lover , his Lily.

We see            how        some remarkable

Slytherins   who have pride their courage

as any gryffindor,         stayed loyal as any

hufflepuffs and               intelligent as any

ravenclaw in Hogswart.      We must stop

putting tags because            some people

choose to be wrong ,          and look at the

diversity of wizards      and witches in our

wizarding world.

So here i take a     stand for all the brave ,

kind , intelligent    and cunning slytherin's

who felt targetted   as evil whenever they

mentioned their house name . I solemnly

swear             that not all of us are trouble

makers ,     are you areum ?

So lets end the fun here for tonight !

question one

do you think that some common stereotypes and prejudices associated with hogswart's Slytherin house students are justified?

question two

was one wrong fish the reason for bad nature of Slytherin? was it tom riddle or Salazar Slytherin who portrayed slytherin students at evil eye?

question three

could you list me reason that some slytherin students were blamed just because of being sorted in their house?

question 4

does really sorting students in Slytherin house make them negative or is it just stereotype? explain in few words kindly

question 5

Do you think J.K.Rowling could have shown a more humane nature of slytherins than just hate and what changes would you have made for it?

1) I don’t believe the prejudices and stereotypes are justified. No one should be judged off of anything associated with them except for their character.

2) I don’t think so. For Slytherin to gain the reputation it did means that there was a pattern in play throughout the years for it to get the way that it did. This isn’t saying that ALL Slytherins are bad, but clearly enough were and it was taken notice of to get to the point where it is now.

3) It’s honestly kind of difficult to come up with any as the most instances shown where Slytherins are blamed for something that doesn’t have some kind action before it. Like Draco with Buckbeak. He provoked the bird and got attacked. And there’s also Pansy, who wanted to hand Harry over to Voldemort. McGonagall had all the Slytherin students placed in the dungeons because of it. It could’ve been to spare them from fighting their parents but also showed that clearly not all the Slytherin students could be trusted. The only case, that I can recall, where someone is accused of anything simply for being Slytherin is Severus in multiple cases, the first one being that he was the one trying to steal the philosopher’s stone. Without any proper evidence and simply off of appearance, Severus is suspected to be the one going after the stone.

4) Well, we have to keep in mind the sorting hat houses students based off of the characteristic traits that person holds the most. If those traits align with Slytherin’s, it’s more likely than not that that student will end up in Slytherin house. As for being negative, it’s all about the people you surround yourself with. Slughorn is a great example of this. Sure, he wasn’t exactly the best guy, but he certainly wasn’t anything like Tom Riddle or Lucius Malfoy. In my opinion, its all learned behavior whether it be from peers or parents.

5) I think she could have honestly, but clearly she used stereotypes to set up the houses. Gryffindors are the popular jocks of the school. Ravenclaw are your book nerds. Hufflepuffs are kinda like the band and theater kids in my mind. And then you have the Slytherins who are, well most of them, the rich cool kids. I think JKR did try to make an example of how in each house not everyone fits the stereotype like Peter Pettigrew for Gryffindor, Luna for Ravenclaw, Cedric Diggory for Hufflepuff and Severus for Slytherin. But with the wit of knowing Severus’ motives till the end leaves everyone in the dark for the longest time, letting them just simply think he’s a terrible guy for SO many years.

If I were to have written the books, I probably would have written more scenes with Slytherin characters to show that sure, they’re the rich kids, but everyone has their own insecurities and issues. Maybe something along the lines of a fee students chatting about how they’re afraid to disappoint their parents in some shape or form. It’s usually the small moments that readers can relate to more, and I think if JKR could have added more of those rather than force all the Slytherins to save face 100% of the time it could remind people that they’re people too and there’s usually more good apples than bad ones.

1. no i don't think the prejudices and stereotypes associated with the slytherin students are justified. stereotyping a whole bunch of students and thinking of them as evil just because some notorious criminals belonged to that house is unjustifiable for the students who are good at heart and have no evil motives.

2. yes, i think tom riddle was the reason why the slytherin students had a bad reputation in the school. tom, or voldemort, being the most feared and evil wizard and belonging to slytherin definitely made other people somewhat fear and stereotype all the slytherin students as evil.

3. the most prominent reason for the slytherin students to get blamed is definitely the poor image of the house due to some students which belonged to it. another reason could be the rivalry between gryffindor and slytherin, which lead to the creation of biasness in other houses, especially gryffindor againt slytherin.

4. this is definitely a stereotype, being sorted into a house does not decide if you're a morally evil person or a good one. we could take the example of characters such as andromeda tonks, regulus black and horace slughorn, none of them were inherently evil despite of belonging to slytherin while we've had evil character from other houses such as peter pettigrew from gryffindor and quirrell from ravenclaw

5. oh yes slytherins could've definitely had a more humane nature instead of portraying them as the downright 'evil' house. making almost all the antagonists slytherins was a bad move. i would've instead changed the housed of some death eaters to other hogwarts houses and i would've added some more prominent slytherin characters who weren't evil.

1. I don't think the stereotypes are justified at all towards Slytherins. The other houses and even the staff themselves seem to go out of their way to express favoritism to the other houses. How is Hogwarts supposed to help shape and grow young minds if all they are doing is feeding children that they are "evil" for their personality traits?

2. Not one house that didn't had a single bad apple. Godric Gryffindor was a bigot towards his own friend. Helga Hufflepuff wasn't exactly loyal. Rowena Ravenclaw wasn't that intelligent. Salazar Slytherin may have wanted Hogwarts to only open up to magical only students..but that's like ALL magical schools. Dumbledore rejected Lily Potter's sister because she's a squib..how is that fair?

3. Straight from the first book/movie Ron immediately said "not all witches and wizard end up in Slytherin go bad" further Harry's dislike towards the other house and even forced the sorting hat to place him in Gryffindor. Instead of breaking the vicious and toxic violent cycle of being the first not "evil" Slytherin in Hogwarts history, Harry chose to keep it alive instead.

5. I don't think J.K Rowling is solely the reason for the Slytherin hate. Media and movies played a major role in the "evil" Slytherin stereotypes. So much that I sometimes feel guilty of being a Slytherin, that I am evil and wicked by default for just being ambitious.

1. some of them, maybe. but not ALL of them. there are terrible people in every house. some of them worse than the slytherin stereotypes, like for example 🤔 peter pettigrew was a gryffindor, quirrell being a ravenclaw yada yada. so, i would say, no, the stereotypes aren't completely justified because there are exceptions.

2. it was definitely salazar slytherin who portrayed the slytherins at evil eye. he was the very first who declared that only 'purest of magic' were 'fit to be educated at hogwarts' which was the beginning of muggle born hate, and the pureblood supremacy belief, sooo.. :grimacing: :grimacing: that explains much.

3. because of their ancestry, mostly. salazar slytherin was a dark wizard, and voldemort is literally the dark lord. people associate them, and their house, with dark magic.

4. its obviously just a stereotype. you dont automatically turn evil or negative once you get sorted into slytherin, thats based on your choices, not the house you're sorted in.

1: I think about 80% of what we see from the Slytherins during Harry's years, the stereotypes are understandable but I wouldn't say justified.

2: I 100% believe Slytherin's reputation went sour because of Tom Riddle.

3: Because Slytherin is synonyms with Tom Riddle aka Voldemort.

4: It's just a stereotype every house has their bad eggs.

5: I think the only way to have shown a more humane side besides the struggles we saw Draco go through in Half-Blood Prince would be one of two things, have Harry be in Slytherin or Harry would have a friend or two from Slytherin.

1: I do not. While some Slytherins made bad choices, judging the whole house based on a few individuals is unfair. Ambition and cunning aren’t bad traits, they can lead to greatness when used with integrity.

2: Both Tom Riddle and Salazar Slytherin played roles in shaping the negative view of Slytherin. Salazar’s pure-blood ideology created division, but Tom Riddle (Voldemort) intensified the evil stereotype. Still, it wasn’t just one person it was how their legacy influenced perceptions over time.

3: Some Slytherin students were blamed simply because they were sorted into a house known for producing dark wizards. Their traits, like ambition and cunning, were often misunderstood as dangerous, and during the war, many people assumed they ed Voldemort without considering their individual choices.

4: It’s just a stereotype. Sorting doesn’t make students bad-environment, choices, and experiences do. Slytherins have the potential for greatness, just like any other house.

5: Yes, I think J.K. Rowling could have shown a more humane side of Slytherins instead of focusing mostly on hate. She could have included more Slytherin characters who were brave, kind, or selfless, and highlighted friendships between Slytherins and students from other houses to break the negative stereotype.
