I read the books and watched the movie and there was little redemption arc to look at. All I is him not beating up Harry in Order of the Phoenix and his asking why Harry wasn't coming with them when they had to leave the house in Deathly Hallows. That being said, he was not a major character in the series. He was just an annoyance to Harry who'd bully him.
Dudley's redemption is overlooked by the fandom, mostly due to his character being mean and the way he bullied Harry in almost all instances except in the 'Deathly Hallows' book. As we can see in the first years of Harry, Dudley continue to bully Harry with his parents' encouragement. So, this might be a point why many overlook his redemption in the last book.
But, they could have included a little bit of details of Dudley's path to redemption rather than dropping that particular fact unceremoniously into the story. Then it wouldn't have been an issue to many as to why he is suddenly kind to Harry in the last book/movie of the series.
But personally speaking, I think Dudley is a great individual to redempt his actions towards Harry in their early years. It takes a lot of courage to truly it their mistakes.
I would say that it was because of this character and personality. He bullied Harry for years and was most likely encouraged to by his parents, as his parents were being unfair and mean to Harry it would encourage him to do the same. And throughout the books we find out that he is just a bully in general to everyone as we find out that he along with his friends fight/ beat up other kids.
He is also just a very disliked character due to the favouritism that his parents gave him. Also he was just a greedy kid who knew he could get anything he wanted due to the lack of self control his parents had.
I fully believe though that maybe he actually wanted to be kind and be friends with Harry growing up but he decided against it due to his parents despising Harry. I do believe that his redemption deserved to be in the movies as it shows that maybe he did somewhat care for Harry but was just hiding it due to his parents.
Well, it depends on whether you are looking at the books or the movie. The movie didn’t put much focus on his redemption. The books did though. But I think it’s mostly overlooked because he doesn’t play a big role in Harry’s life as much as we would think.
Dudley did not have a big role in the Harry Potter series, except for being an annoying trashcan who throws tantrums for a living. And honestly, that absolutely sucks. The last book gave us insight into another side of Dudley's personality, and I strongly believe that this guy has been misunderstood by pretty much everyone - even by his parents. Maybe he even misunderstood himself, or at least a part of his identity.
Dudley's redemption arc is better than Draco's redemption arc, and you can't change my mind. :japanese_goblin: :hocho:
Real, Dudley’s redemption deserved to be in the movies, I was literally so annoyed when it wasn’t included and saw the behind the scenes of it
