Wands up, Triwiz Champions!

──────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────────

We are the Hogwarts Team, here to slay the first task of the Triwizard Tournament 2025! We have taken to completing all of our task in record time (this surely won't bite us in the broom later) and are ready to introduce our first topic:

──────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────────

Beauxbatons

──────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────────

Not much is known about this prestigious French wizarding school compared to Hogwarts, so we have added some of our own headcanons to the meagre canon. But before we get there, Tina will give us a rundown of the history of Beauxbatons:

──────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────────

Beauxbatons Academy of Magic:

Campus, Location & Grounds

──────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────────

The Beauxbatons campus rests high in the Pyrenees Mountains of Southern . It’s a seven-story chateau which lies on a flatter area, up on the highest peak, made using magic. The windows are tall, the walls are marble, and if you squint, it’s a lot like Château de Chambord but with more magic and fewer tourists.

Behind the castle lies Beauxbatons Park, where students like to study as its peace and nature calms their mind. There’s a fountain there too, the Fontaine de Flamel, named after Nicolas Flamel, the school’s most famous alum.

Beauxbatons Academy of Magic:

A brief History

──────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────────

Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, often compared to Hogwarts and Durmstrang, is one of Europe’s most prestigious magical schools, known for its elegance and rich history. The exact date it opened is a mystery, but it was certainly up and running by the late 13th century, evidenced by its participation in the Triwizard Tournament, which began around 1290. Some say it was founded around the same time as Hogwarts, which makes sense because the two schools feel inseparably linked.

It is rumored to be located in the Pyrenees Mountains. Beauxbatons’ grounds were renowned for their beauty, having gardens filled with vibrant flowers, ancient statues watching over students, and wood nymphs serenading them with songs that would have sounded more angelic than anything Hogwarts’ ghosts could offer.

[B]

But Beauxbatons wasn’t just about beauty. Its curriculum focused on practical magic. However, the school never dabbled in the Dark Arts, taking a far more cautious approach than the dark and dangerous Durmstrang. And in the Triwizard Tournament, Beauxbatons showcased its prowess, with over 60 victories just one shy of Hogwarts’ record.

Notable alumni include Nicolas Flamel, the creator of the Philosopher's Stone, and Olympe Maxime, its heistress during the 1994 Triwizard Tournament and Fleur Delacour who was the champion in the 1994 Triwizard Tournament, representing Beauxbatons.

In the end, what sets Beauxbatons apart is its refined culture, evident in its formal dress code and use of flying Abraxan horses for transportation. Although they kept a relatively low profile during the darker days of the wizarding world, not seeking the spotlight the way Hogwarts did. But it wasn’t about fame for them. Beauxbatons wasn’t a school of dark wizards or chosen one’s, it was a school of talented, refined wizards and witches who valued grace as much as power. Its legacy endures as one of Europe’s finest magical institutions.

Headcanons

──────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────────

The less there is written about something in canon, the more the fandom will conjure from thin air. And people online have been filling in the blanks. For example, the very dedicated team of SnitchSeeker RPG have made up a very detailed and very popular headcanon:

──────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────────

Beauxbatons Academy of Magic:

According to SnitchSeeker RPG

──────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────────

The main entrance to the castle leads to an entrance hall with French wood ling and a golden mirror that leans casually against the wall. Beyond that, are tall doors which fall open into the Grand Ballroom. The Grand Ballroom is the biggest and most highly decorated of all of Beauxbatons' ballrooms. It features marble floors, a ceiling that’s a Baroque fever dream, and glass chandeliers that make every inch of the room glimmer. At the far end of the ballroom, a grand staircase sweeps upward, taking you to classrooms, dormitories, and other mysterious corners of the castle.

The classrooms, scattered mostly across the 1st and 2nd floors have Gothic-style windows that let in just the right amount of light, and yes, even the classrooms have chandeliers because, apparently, Beauxbatons doesn’t do "ordinary." The hallways connecting these rooms are made of dusty blue marble, with rounded ceilings that sparkle with tiny stars, decorated with paintings of memorable figures that watch over everything like silent guardians. Then there are the common rooms, three of them, each tied to a house. Common rooms are found in each of the House Towers.

According to SnitchSeekerRPG, Beauxbatons has three houses:

Papillonlisse is where the kind-hearted dwell. These students not only are the social butterflies who often show talent for the arts but they are also valued for their maturity and appreciation of humanity. Their dorms are located in the North Wing.

Ombrelune is for the ambitious dreamers, the ones who believe that logic is the most powerful kind of magic. They chase perfection like it’s a comet just out of reach, fueled by curiosity and a desire to leave their mark. Their tower stands in the East Wing, near the library.

And then there’s Bellefeuille, where bravery feels like second nature, and comion flows instinctively. These students display a tendency towards nature and are hard working which can be seen in their academic performances. The Bellefeuille dorms are found in the turrets of the Great Tower.

Beauxbatons Academy of Magic:

According to Lay

──────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────────

However, not everyone agrees with all aspects of SnitchSeeker's canon, so here are some headcanons of our own:

──────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────────

Beauxbatons has no houses

Beauxbatons needs no houses

──────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────────

As far as I’m aware, school houses are kind of a British thing. They’ve… uh… “exported” the concept to other countries, but most of those are not European. In Wizarding World Canon, we never got to know if Beauxbatons has houses. But if it had, wouldn’t Fleur or one of the other unnamed Beauxbatons students who never got to speak have mentioned it? So in my world, Beauxbatons doesn’t have houses. Instead, Beauxbatons focuses on two things:

The achievements of students as individuals

I think individual achievements would play a huge role for students attending Beauxbatons. I think would have one or more wizarding universities, so students would want to get outstanding grades in order to attend one of those universities. On top of that, students would also want to participate in extracurricular activities that are not exclusively team-based.

[B]

The achievements of the school itself

Beauxbatons is a prestigious school that students are proud to attend. I personally find it hard to believe that Hogwarts, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang are supposed to be the only three wizarding schools in Europe. You’re telling me there’s one school for students living in Great Britain, another for French students and a third for, what? All of the northern and eastern European countries who don’t even speak the same language? Disrespectfully, that’s lazy worldbuilding. I think most European countries have their own wizarding school. Or several. I went to school in and let me tell you, every STATE would have their own school here. We can NOT agree on one central school system. Anyway.

So there are a lot of schools to choose from. I’m thinking it’s not uncommon to send your kid to school in a different European country than the one you live in. Especially since French isn’t just spoken in . People from Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and the southwest of (all French-speaking parts of Europe) would surely be willing to send their children to study in . So Beauxbatons would want to itself to those students by making sure it’s an impressive school with an impressive curriculum.

Beauxbatons Classes

Beauxbatons offers more subjects than Hogwarts

──────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────────

The Hogwarts curriculum is very magic-only and that’s wonderful, but I don’t think Beauxbatons would follow that approach. Regarding the magic classes, I think Charms would be one of the most important ones. It seems to fly under the radar a bit at Hogwarts since HP Canon likes to focus on DADA and Potions, for plot reasons. However, we see Fleur be exceptionally skilled at using charms during the Triwizard Tournament. She uses sleeping charms on the dragon during the first task and a bubble-head charm for the second. At Beauxbatons, I imagine students would even learn how to come up with their own spells.

I also think the school offers classes on magical healing. The fountain in the school’s park is believed to have healing properties and the creator of the Philosopher’s Stone, Nicolas Flamel, went to Beauxbatons. So besides healing magic, I think the school would also be renowned for their Alchemy classes.

[B]

In addition to magical subjects, Beauxbatons would want to make sure their students receive a thorough education in other subjects, especially:

Languages

is not an island. And yeah, I know, they say the French only speak French but let’s be honest, they do learn other languages over there. I think Beauxbatons would offer a variety of languages, at a minimum the big European ones. Like you’re telling me Beauxbatons students don’t learn English, or German, or Spanish? Yeah, I don’t think so. Especially since canon states that they accept students from Spain and Portugal. I think the school would teach Latin too for spell creation, and perhaps Arabic because of their focus on Alchemy.

Music, Fine Arts and Dance

Do you know how many famous French composers and artists there are? I hardly think they’re all muggles. I think Beauxbatons offers music and art classes. Magic would integrate well into those subjects. For example, students at Beauxbatons learn the spells that make paintings move and they play enchanted instruments. Perhaps they also learn how to build them. I also think students have to attend mandatory dance classes for at least one year. Their dance skills in Goblet of Fire are just too good. But what do I know, maybe being a dance pro was a requirement to be chosen as Triwiz candidate.

Cooking

Fleur complained about the food at Hogwarts and well, I can’t really blame her. French cuisine is famous for a reason. That’s why I think students would be able to attend cooking classes at Beauxbatons. They would learn all about magical herbs and cooking spells.

──────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────────

Beauxbatons Extracurriculars

Quidditch is not that important

──────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹──────────

We all know that Quidditch is huge at Hogwarts and plays a major part in the house cup. Even if all of your housemates are dumb as bread, you can still gain a huge amount of points on the pitch. So how about Beauxbatons?

I think the most popular sport at Beauxbatons is Duelling. Not only is duelling an extremely French thing, but the Beauxbatons coat of arms depicts two crossed wands. And “beaux batons” are “beautiful sticks”. What’s a beautiful stick but a wand? I think the school has an ongoing duelling tournament that every student from year 4 to 7 is able to take part in. The duelling trophy is a silver wand, because I say so.

[B]

However, I think Quidditch still gets played at Beauxbatons. There is a French Quiddich league after all, all of those players have to come from somewhere. I also think the European wizarding schools have school teams and play against each other internationally.

I also think Beauxbatons offers more extracurriculars than Hogwarts, simply because it’s a bigger school. There’s a club for all of those fine arts connoisseurs. A school orchestra and choir (not a frog choir though, that’s considered vulgar). In Goblet of Fire, the Beauxbatons carriage is drawn by Abraxans. I think the school raises Abraxans themselves, similarly to how there are Thestrals living on Hogwarts grounds. Beauxbatons would offer Abraxan riding classes, or perhaps they just use normal horses. Seems fancy enough. On top of that, Beauxbatons is located in the Pyrenees, it’s surrounded by mountains. Beauxbatons students go skiing all the time in winter! A few years ago some seventh years tried to race each other on Abraxan-drawn sleighs and created a huge chaos. Because I say so.

What I think is that your headcannons are way better than the ones of SnitchSeeker. AND THE CLASSES. LET ME ATTEND COOKING CLASS, PLEASE. It'd be cool if I could sit in someone's hat and be like Remy. Or maybe I could just possess someone, that'd be easier.

The edit is fantastic, and I didn't know all of the background information yet. I loved this!
