Hello HPA, Team Durmstrang's Natsu

here with a little art blog of my own

imaginings of the HP characters we just

didn't get to see in the movies.

There were plenty to choose from but I

decided to go with a few of my minor favourites!

So first I think I should go over my process,

pencil is what I used to sketch out the initial

drawings. I had to redraw winky a few times

because I realised putting her in a dress just

wasn't fitting, also the addition of hair didn't

quite fit either! Peeves was probably most fun

to draw I have gone over my reasonings for

design choices a bit further down on each

characters description though!

I used Windsor and Newton Paints to colour,

as this work is of a chibi art nature it requires

just two or three layers to get the desired effect,

any more and it over complicates the minimalist

style of the art. The piece took roughly 2 hours

to paint in total.

I painting from light to dark, choosing to use

quite bright and garish colours for our pesky

poltergeist peeves!

For the outlines I used the Copic liner in 0.1

Light brown, these pens are wonderful as they

are lightfast and do not bleed! I try to vary my

lines, use cross hatching and usually colour in

a little using the pen for darker shaded areas

to add depth. I used a sakura gelly roll white pen

to finish off the piece to give the characters some

highlights. I erased any remaining pencil and

cleaned up a tiny bit using photoshop phone app.

Adjusting, whites, blacks, vibrancy and

saturation a little.

Here are the final little designs I came up

with for each character in chibi style, together

with my reasonings for design elements.

A house elf that was under servitude to the

Crouch family, her freedom however came as

a great shame to the little elf. She was released

from duties after being caught with a wand

under circumstances that painted the Crouch

family in a bad light, with the implication of

involvement of the Dark arts. Winky was hired by

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

to work with the other elves in the kitchen. Unlike

Dobby she see's her freedom as shameful and most upsetting.

I drew this character in a cloth bag much like

Dobby wore during the movies, mainly due to the

fact that Winky disliked wearing proper clothing -

likely clinging onto her former life. She spent a

lot of her time in the books crying so it made sense

to draw her in a tearful and distraught manner.

Sir Cadogan was the little knight that took up

the post of the Gryffindor common room

portrait temporarily during the third book. He

was quite the character, changing the common

room so often that poor Neville had

at least 20 written down on a piece of parchment

so he wouldn't repeatedly get locked out! Neville

being Neville did end up losing said paper, this

allowed Sirius a way into the commons to hunt

for 'Scabbers' frightening poor Ron to death in

the middle of the night. Apparently the portrait

was vigilant enough to change the

often enough but not enough to actually consider

if the people entering were students or not! :sweat_smile:

I painted the Knight in full plate armour that I

imagine him to be in. There's not a whole lot of

information to go on so I had a bit of fun playing

around with design!

Hogwarts first year students worst nightmare, the

poltergeist that liked to play malicious pranks

on unsuspecting students. The only one Peeves

seemed to fear at all was the Heaster himself,

even the intimidating Potions master didn't seem

to faze this ghostie. It's easy to imagine

being around for so long allowed this pest to

have plenty of dirt on all the professors so it's no

wonder he never paid much attention!

He's described as wearing quite loud and unusual

clothing, a hat with bells and an orange bow tie.

Unlike the other ghosts of hogwarts that were

translucent and pearly white Peeves displayed

colour. A lot of people illustrate Peeves as a jester

of sorts and that fits with my imagination well, I

gave him colour but still tinted him blue to represent

that he's not part of the living plain.
