A cage. Yes. A cage is an important part of a guinea pig started kit. It’s where they will spend most of its time. With that most store bought cages are way to small. The minimum for two guinea pigs is 7.5 sq ft. A good store bought cage would be The Midwestern Cage. It is 7.5 square ft and you can connect multiple. Two alternatives for a cheaper option would be a c and c cage. Which stands for cubes and coroplast. You buy c and c grids and connect them. Then use corplast at the bottom. You can also make a diy cage with wood!

brands I recommend

MidWest Cage

C and C Cage

D.I.Y Cage

bedding is an important part too. Some bedding is toxic for guinea pugs respiratory system. Personally paper bedding is the best in my opinion. Most people like to use fleece, but some use bedding that can’t be reused.

good non reusable bedding brands

CareFresh (most recommend)

Kaytee

good fleece brands

Guinea-Dad (most recommend)

most Etsy shops

hay is an essential. It makes up most of a guinea pigs diet and helps keep their constantly growing teeth down. Make sure to always get 2nd or 3rd cut hay. Look at my guinea pigs diet post click here for more info.

brands I recommend

oxbow

small pet select

pellets are not essential, but you can choose to feed them or not to. I personally feed them for extra nutrition! Make sure they do not have any colorful bits, nuts, dairy, etc.

brands I recommend

oxbow

small pet select

some people use water bottles, some use bowls. It’s mainly the guinea pigs preference. I prefer the glass bottle instead of the plastic ones.

water bottle brands I recommend

living world

bowl brands I recommend

any bowls that can not be easily tipped over, like ceramic bowl

guinea pigs are prey animals and are easily frightened. There are no brands I recommend, but make sure there are two or more entrances/exits so one can come in and out easily.

                                   .﹋.﹋.﹋.﹋.

Some people opt to not use hay racks, but I personally prefer it. Again no recommend brands, but make sure the holes are big enough for guinea pigs to easily access the hay.

Like humans they need their nails clipped. Again no recommend brands. You can use one made for guinea pigs or even ones used for humans!

Nice blog! :two_hearts:

I have guinea pig, rabbit, cat and human nail clippers for my guinea pigs but because of my poor eye sight, I just take them to the vet to get their nails trimmed, which isn’t very expensive

Thanks! I take it to a local shelter to do it for free: I usually make a donation or volunteer cleaning, feeding etc.
