In 1976, Hugh Culverhouse was awarded the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by the NFL. Culverhouse was a tax lawyer in Florida, and he officially owned a professional Football team. Culverhouse hired his new head coach, 53 year old USC legend John McKay. It was a perfect start.

The first pick in franchise history.

With the first pick in franchise history, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted hall of fame defensive end Lee Roy Selmon. Overall Tampa was off to a great start, then it went downhill. The rest of their picks mostly missed, with a few exceptions, but hey, having your first ever pick being a hall of famer is a great start to a franchise!
The beginning of the franchise.
The season began in Houston, where QB Steve Spurrier went an amazing 9-26, with 58 ing yards, two picks, and was sacked 6 times. Now you would think that it couldn't get any worse, but it does! The following week, Tampa had their home opener against the San Diego Chargers, where Spurrier ed for an amazing negative four yards(a record which stood until 2009), with three interceptions. To be fair the next week, Spurrier finally ed for triple digit yards, while putting up 9 points.(they haven't scored a touchdown this season yet.)
So the Bucs are off to the best start in NFL history, the good news is, they score a touchdown the following week, the bad news? They still lose, and continue to lose for the rest of the season all the way to an 0-14 season, while averaging a whooping 9 points per game, while giving up about 28 points per game, giving them an -20 point differential.
A new year.

The Bucs once again had the first overall pick, and like last time, they were focused on drafting a hall of famer. John McKay would return for his second season as the buccaneers head coach, and all was right with the world in Tampa. With the first overall pick, they drafted Ricky Bell, a player would play 5 seasons with the Bucs, a player who would eclipse 1,000 rushing yards once in his entire career. The next player drafted was some guy named Tony Dorsett.
Overall Tampa missed on all their picks, but at least they would have better QB play then last season, right? The good news was that nobody had any expectations, as Tampa had +100,000 odds to win the super bowl. To put that in perspective, Las Vegas bookies believed you had a better chance to be hit by lightning then the Bucs to win the Super bowl.
The mess of QBs.
Many NFL fans believe the 2008 Lions had the worst QB play of all time, some say the 2017 Cleveland Browns, who had 16 touchdowns and 27 interceptions, but neither of these are factual. The worst QB room of all time belongs to the 1977 Tampa Bucs, who had a starting rotation of 3 guys who never played football again: Randy Hedberg, Jeb Blount, and Gary Huff. Only one of them threw a touchdown that year. The season in Philly that year, were the defense impressed giving up 13 points, but the offense somehow only scored 3, while having 26 ing yards, and giving up 5 sacks. To be fair, two weeks later they did finally score a touchdown, although they didn't win... The bucs had the worst offense in NFL history, scoring 7.5 points a game, although the defense was only giving up 15, which was a massive improvement from the year prior.
The offense was so bad, that they were shutout 6 times during the season, a record that still stands to this day. Here are all the QB stats for the Bucs that season.
Randy Hedberg: 0-4, 0 244 ing yards, 0 touchdowns, 10 interceptions.
Jeb Blount: 0-4, 522 ing yards, 0 touchdowns, 7 interceptions.
Gary Huff: 2-4, 889 ing yards, 3 touchdowns, 13 interceptions.
So with the team ing for an elite 1,665 yards(118 yards per game) a 39.6% completion percentage, 3 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions, getting two wins is actually pretty impressive.
Winning?

The Bucs were finally put out of their misery in week 13 in New Orleans, where after having a humiliating performance against the Chicago Bears, the Bucs came to play, putting up 30+ points for the first time in franchise history, as they destroyed the Saints. They would go on the next week to beat the Cardinals, and the future was looking bright.
After a terrible start to their franchise, Tampa decided to trade down and not take a player with the first overall pick, they ended up trading picks with the Houston Oilers, who drafted some guy named Earl Campbell. The Bucs did draft a super bowl winning QB though, he just won a super bowl with a different team. To Tampa's credit, they did win the division in 1979, with a 5-0 start, but we will always love and cherish the 0-26 Bucs, to wrap this up, here is one of the greatest quotes of all time by John McKay. "Well, we didn't block, you know, but we made up for it by not tackling."~ John McKay.
