As some of you may know, Great Comet’s writer/composer/orchestrator/Pierre, Dave Malloy, has been writing another musical (also based on a book), Moby Dick. This December his new musical will have its world premiere!
Moby Dick is going to run from Dec 2019-January 2020 at ART (American Repertory Theater). Art is where Great Comet ran before it came to Broadway and it is located in Cambridge, MA (near where I live). Very exciting!
Rachel Chavkin is directing again. Dave and Rachel are so busy. Hadestown just opened, and Octet (ANOTHER Dave Malloy musical) is premiering this month.
Octet sounds experimental and interesting and I’m excited. I don’t kniw much about the Moby Dick musical but this is Dave we’re talking about (boring doesn’t live in his musical vocabulary, at least in my opinion).

About Octet:
Written by Tony nominee Dave Malloy (The Great Comet), directed by Annie Tippe and music-directed by Or Matias, Octet features a score for an a cappella chamber choir and an original libretto inspired by Internet comment boards, scientific debates, religious texts and Sufi poetry. The musical explores addiction and nihilism within the messy context of 21st-century technology.
