Spam Ban: Goodbye Hackers!

I know it's been tough these past two weeks with all the spamming and attempts of hacking s on amino. Even with all the frustrations I am proud to say that all of you here who had to unfortunately go through this situations handled it carefully, by not clicking the link instantly and first coming to myself or my fellow leaders and curators and reporting the issue. Some red flagged the making it easier for us to locate the hackers and ban them. Great job everyone, you all did the right thing!

Hackers?

I know there are many here who are new to this and it has come to my attention that those new to the community are mostly receiving this message. Here is a short run down of what is happening. Apparently a hacker created a way to get on amino their information and use that to their advantage to take over their s, by sending such messages to of a community and asking them to fill out a form that was so sensitive that even clicking the link could give the hackers your information. The hackers did this with the following name+ and message+:

This definetly got very irritating, so many s were created as previous similar s were banned. Many were scared and annoyed with the thought of being hacked and them getting repeat messages over and over.

Don't worry you guys are not alone, this was definitely very frustrating for us too, there were just so many of them and it was difficult to catch them all. So trust me, we understand your frustrations and did and will do our best to prevent these hackers from continuing with their attempts.

Since this situation was getting out of hand, team Amino decided to step up for all of us and put an end to these hackers. Two new things will take place, hopefully preventing hackers from doing what they are trying to.

When making an , there was only the need for a valid email, no verification was required, but due to the situation, Amino now will require emails to be verified. No longer will the hackers or anyone at this case be able to create emails as follows:

AminoXXXX@gmail.com [X] They can not just make the email up and make an , they would need to have a real email with the name and be able to it to create anymore s.

As I looked over the comments about this new update, I witnessed some confusion floating around. I will try my best to clear out any and all confusion.

Safe Browdate is an attempt to block any and all forms that are not approved by Amino.

The hackers will not be able to trick into clicking a false link since it will not open nor operate in the amino app, this way it will be safe for all who do click it accidently.

《 CON 》

For any community including ourself, wanting to get community , applying for a position, etc. via Google form, the form will not open in this app, thus asking the to go into another browser to open the form. This can be inconvenient and time consuming but anything to keep those hackers away and for us to stay together as a family keeping not only this community safe but every single community on this Amino app.

Hopefully this method gives some sense to these hackers and they will no longer mess with any community or even Amino app itself.

Even with that I will say again how happy I am as to how this situation was handled. We will not let those hackers get to us or our family here.

With all this occurring there is a bit more relief that these hackers will be stopped but unfortunately since there are so many of these s already created it is upto all of us to work a bit harder and make sure the ones still out there will stop. Together we can make this community safe again!
