Park Jinyoung was in a foul mood.
Not one, but two trauma patients had flatlined under his care.
A last ditch attempt to resuscitate with R and adrenaline had just barely revived one of them, while the other unfortunately, was a lost cause.
Irritable and exhausted, he was not in the mood to be tested.
Fate had other plans it would seem.
"We need to talk Park," you said, sliding a steaming cup of Americano his way.
He sighed, fingers pinching the bridge of his nose as he studied you wearily. "Now is not a good–"
"It's about Jackson," you said, quietly.
His eyes snapped up to meet yours, brows furrowed together, forehead creasing in concern.
"Go on then"
–––––––––
"What?" asked Jinyoung, incredulously.
"Are you seriously suggesting that Jackson... Jackson, of all people is involved in some sort of..sleazy smuggling ring?"
"Well..his actions certainly make it seem that way" you added quietly.
Jinyoung shook his head in disbelief.
"No way. This seems far too.... circumstantial. It could be a setup, I mean Jackson is a stand up guy–"
"But Jinyoung-"
Beep beep beep.
Jinyoung cursed softly, glancing at his pager.
" Thats me. Stay out of trouble Y/N",he grinned at you as he left, white coat swirling behind in his wake.
–––––––
Jackson was away on a conference that week, which gave you the perfect chance to snoop around.
Finding the door to his chamber unlocked, you snuck inside, quickly rifling through the papers on his desk and cabinets but finding nothing.
A rapid series of knocks sounded at the door before it was flung open to reveal a young boy, not more than four years old,
"Seunnie! Seunnie! Look what I-", he exclaimed, running forward at full speed.
He stopped abruptly at the sight of you, eyes widening in fear, before he burst into tears.
You cursed your luck.
The last thing you need was to be ratted out by one Jackson's patients for snooping.
Almost immediately, a young woman, pretty but careworn, rushed forward to soothe him, looking at you apologetically.
"Please excuse my son.. we're looking for Dr. Wang, is he not in today? "
"Oh, I'm sorry he's away on a conference this week, " you answered with your most reassuring smile.
" He should be back in a few days. Is there a problem? I can take a look for you, I'm Dr. L/N, second in command here in Surgery," You held out your hand and the woman shook it, smiling warmly.
She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear before speaking, "I..well 'we' wanted to stop by and thank Dr. Wang"
" You see, my son , he's been on the waitlist for a kidney for ages now, we'd given up hope really, but Dr. Wang.. he..he made it happen!
The donor, the surgery, he took care of everything! It's a miracle! We're just..so very grateful," she choked out, eyes brimming with tears.
"We all are " said another voice, from just beyond the door as an elderly woman stepped into the door frame and into your line of vision.
What on earth?
You peered out of his office, to see a small crowd gathered there.
Are these all.... patients?
"Pardon me,ladies and gentlemen, but are you all Dr. Wang's patients?", you enquired.
They nodded, smiling warmly while the children squealed excitedly, "Seunnie! Seunnie! " and their parents hurried to shush them.
" You've all undergone some kind of a transplant surgery? And Dr. Wang," you stressed, " took full responsibility for it?"
They nodded enthusiastically.
"How long did you have to wait, to receive an organ donor?"
"Two days!"
"A week!"
" Two weeks, and that was it!" said one person, beaming at you .
All the others had similar answers.
It didn't make any sense.
Organs for transplant surgeries weren't exactly easy to find.
You couldn't just head to your local store and order a dozen kidneys!
The legalities and paperwork itself took months and then you'd need to find an actual willing donor.
Top that off with any surgical complications and it would take a good year,at the very least.
Most people could stay on the waiting list for years, and still not find a donor.
Yet Seoul General went through a dozen of these surgeries in less than a month.
All thanks to Miracle worker , Jackson Wang. But how?
Unless Wang was somehow growing kidneys on trees, or moonlighting as a Black Market thug, there was no possible explanation for how he was able to procure organs that quickly, you thought darkly.
––––––
The following day, you were asked to sign off on some papers in Jackson's absence.
"Is this everything?",you asked the bored clerk, who nodded absent mindedly.
You flipped through the entire stack, twice, eyes skimming over the pages, when it struck you.
Wait a minute!.. you grabbed the stack of sheets and barged out of the office.
You had to find Jinyoung.
––––––––
Park Jinyoung was in his chamber, enjoying a rare moment of peace , when you came barging in.
" Jinyoung, you've got to see this," you gasped , pulling the sheaf of papers out of your coat pocket for him to see.
He cocked one eyebrow at you, unimpressed. "
"This being?"
"Proof that your boy Wang is deliberately hiding information," you said.
Jinyoung put two fingers to his temple ,forehead creased into a frown, while you continued, " He's performed atleast twelve organ transplants this month, and there isn't a word of it anywhere!
Why ?
Because he's getting the organs from those shady smugglers, using them for the hospital's patients, and making a huge profit while pretending to be some sort of saviour–"
"Enough! " Jinyoung roared throwing the papers down on his desk , "That is a huge accusation and–"
"Everything alright here? ", rang out a deep voice and you froze.
Dr. Tuan stood in the doorway, eyes darting to you both and the papers, now strewn over the desk.
"Mark! Of course, come in" said Jinyoung hastily.
Mark shook his head, calling out as he turned to leave.
" Just making sure you two are on your best behavior for the Gala tomorrow night. Black tie only, don't forget !"
"What Gala?", you asked , confusion evident on your face.
"You'll find out ", said Jinyoung darkly.
