Welcome back, fellow Dashers.
Today, for this Halloween, I’ve decided to take a trip down the nostalgia lane to one of my levels I created on my other uned .
And that level of course, is one I loved creating and playing.

Now, it’s time to inform you about what this level is.

Back in somewhere in late-mid (Possibly September) 2018, when I was still bad at the game, I was watching Partition’s play-through of a fan-made game of Geometry Dash called Geometry Dash Dungeon. It was fairly new at the time, being only at least a week old. The first level was called Apocrypha. It was a simple level that had way more effort than all of RobTop’s levels combined and was Normal difficulty. I liked it the most simply because of the song, especially the ending of the level where the song becomes more quiet and unsettling. I was inspired by that level specifically and made me want to create a level that was slightly based off it.

I started making it probably around Early October. I vividly creating it while I was outside of my main school building and was on the tables. Ahh, good times.
Now about the song. In the YouTube video, there was one comment that said it had an Egyptian vibe to it. While it kind of does, it gives me more of a spooky vibe to it due to some of the quieter parts of the song sounding a bit unsettling, but I adored it, so that’s another reason why I used that song specifically for this level.
After a few days on and off the editor, I finally finished the first version of it and released it to the public for all the world to see.
It was initially Long-length, ending somewhere right here in the level.

But for me who was a 6th grader at the time, it wasn’t enough. That’s where I started working on the extension that made it to what it is today, along with “improving” the decoration, which didn’t really change that much, all I did was add black glow to the bricks. Then after a few weeks, I finished making and decorating the extension. I then verified it on the Halloween of 2018.
And oh god, did I proceed to write this fucking abomination of a description that you literally see in every fucking main and extended list demon.

Well at least I had the proper grammar like a normal fucking 6th grader like me.
And that goes for this level’s history. Now what happened 2 years later?

Nearly 1 and a half years later after the level’s release, on March 28 of this year, it officially got a non-star Harder rating. Well that was a mini-goal accomplished.

Now what happened before? Well, the next section will explain itself.

11 months later after Apocrypha was updated, I wanted to make the official sequel to it, starting where it left off. I wanted to use the second drop of the song this time and as well as the rest of it. It was called:

Yeah. That was the name. I couldn’t think of any cool names that were even related to the word “Apocrypha” itself, so I just slapped a Roman numeral next to the name.
Anyways, after I named it, I immediately started working on the layout. I also started posting updates onto my . It was supposed to be obviously more difficult than its predecessor, as it goes for most sequels of other levels. It was aimed to be 7 star difficulty, opposed to the 3 star difficulty the original had. I could say the layout was far more fun to play, but still had a lot a flaws to it. Anyways, after I finished the layout, I immediately started on the decoration.
Unfortunately, this is where the level started to flop. First of all, I was still bad at decorating and the level was in NO way even rate-worthy at its current state even today. And second, I was having issues with the game trying to save my progress, in which it was already bad by itself, but the fact it was happening while I was trying to decorate just contributed more to Apocrypha II’s inevitable death. Due to that, I immediately lost nearly all motivation to finish this level and therefore dropped it. Days of hard work and my life just irreversibly wasted down the drain.
However, I did occasionally work on it for a little bit, but not as much motivation as before.
Now that I look back at it, the data loss could have been prevented if I could’ve just freed some storage. I had very little storage back then, but now since I moved virtually every single picture in my camera roll into my Google Photos, I really don’t have to worry about that anymore.
So yeah, the sequel is currently dead and I probably won’t revive it anytime soon unless somebody out there is going to help me with decorating it.

So, now back to Apocrypha itself and to give my final thoughts. I really like this level, as I think it gave me the most amount of exposure at the time, currently almost reaching 300 s by the time this is written. Gameplay-wise, it’s honestly not great. There is like a million blind timings and transitions spread throughout the level, and that’s the common consequence of your old levels. Decoration-wise, it was probably at least enough to even convey a theme for it, which was a dungeon-themed level with a forest-like beginning. For the sequel, I was inspired by a few levels, such as Phantom, to make the deco more fitting to the theme.
In closing, this level in particular is not only a piece of nostalgia, but also a successful attempt of gaining publicity. It’s honestly probably one of my favorite old levels I made.
Anyways, that’s gonna conclude for today’s history on this level. If you want to play this level for any reason, the ID is down below.

:/
that moment when you put effort to make a 1.9 styled level but get beaten to this.
Interesting history... I can help you revive the dead sequel if you want, as I am somewhat good at deco.
