this guide is in-depth so it'll be long. keep that in mind if you plan to read it all

i've been maining Chongyun for a while now, and think i know enough stuff to make a guide on how to build him so i decided to try

before beginning keep in mind that this guide is for chongyun as a MAIN DPS, not as a

Here's a list of everything i'll talk about;

•Leveling

•Weapon

•Artifact sets

•Artifact stats

•Constellation

•Talents

•Team building

so let's beginnn

:black_small_square: Leveling

so this guide category comes off kinda confusing, but what i mean by "leveling" is if it's worth bringing a character all the way to 90 because of stats. with chongyun, you definetly should push his level as far as possible to get that atk% ascension stat and then the flat attack from normal levels. in resume, level him up as much as you can because lv90 is worth it.

:black_small_square: Weapon

there's a good amount of weapons to choose from, one of them being the most obvious and free to play friendly but i'll show others too. here's a few:

Debate Club

it's a pretty usable claymore if you don't have anything better. the atk% substat is helpful and it has a nice ability too.

Prototype Archaic

[C]i've been ma

the obvious free to play-friendly option i was talking about. it's a lot like the debate club, except it has a different, pretty powerful ability and significantly higher stats.

Wolf's gravestone

the best possible claymore for him. not much to say about it, it's just broken

before contunuing, you might've noticed i didn't mention the new claymore added with the dragonspine update. this is because it doesn't fit chongyun as well as one would think;

Snow-Tombed Starsilver

the issue in particular is its substat. it's a very, very important part of all weapons and what this claymore has as its substat is something that chongyun doesn't need; physical damage. not even in a freeze-shatter comp (which has physical damage hits) is it better to run this claymore over prototype archaic for example. is it better than debate club? possibly, but i'd reccommend against investing in it for chongyun when such a free to play-friendly option heavily outclasses it.

:black_small_square: Artifact sets

at first glance one would think blizzard strayer is the best set with a big difference, but it's not so much like that. there's two big options for chongyun:

Blizzard Strayer

[C]i've been ma

this set helps his critical hits, and implies you keep his skill up as much as possible. it also boosts his burst, but it has one big issue;

to keep his critical rate boosts from the set at their strongest and use them, he has to freeze enemies; but he's a claymore character. because of this, he shatters the ice and his critical rate boosts reset. they can be at 20%, 40%, but after a single hit it's back to 0% extra critrate.

because of this, there is one more set that becomes viable which we all hate farming for;

Gladiator's Finale

[C]i've been ma

this set is simple but efficient; higher attack and stronger normal and charged attacks. with his skill relying on said normal and charged attacks, this is a great set for him making his damage numbers more consistent, allowing it to compete with the blizzard strayer set.

i don't recommend either set more than the other, but do keep in mind that blizzard strayer would be MUCH easier to farm.

:black_small_square: Artifact stats

this section is very simple, chongyun being a cryo dps means you'll want the following;

HP | ATK | ATK% | CRYO DMG% | CRIT RATE/CRIT DMG%

as you can see, for the headpiece you can go with either crit rate or crit damage. you can decide based on your current stats and substats, and specially depending on which of the two recommended sets you're running;

if you're running 4-piece blizzard strayer, you'd rather have crit dmg most of the time. but if you're running 4-piece gladiator's finale, it's very likely you'll need a higher crit rate. keep that in mind when deciding

:black_small_square: Constellation

this is what chongyun's constellation looks like:

[C]i've been ma

overall, it's really good. the best parts i'd say would be c1 and c6. in my opinion, he's worth pulling constellations for since they make him WAY better.

:black_small_square: Talents

this is chongyun's first ive:

[C]i've been ma

although it helps other melee characters too, this is already good enough with chongyun alone. it increases his dps output greatly.

now, the second one:

[C]i've been ma

this is a big addition to his damage, specially if you have his skill's talent leveled up. it also decreases enemies' cryo resistance which can be pretty handy

which talents to level first?

DPS Chongyun Guide-[Bc]this guide is in-depth so it'll be long. keep that in mind if you plan to read it all

[C]i've been ma

when having chongyun as your main dps, you'll be using his normal attacks the most. because of this, you'll want to level them up first.

in of the other two, it's up to you to decide. leveling up chongyun's skill increases the cryo enhancement's duration and synergizes with his second ive, but leveling his burst instead heavily increases its damage output. i personally chose to prioritize his burst, but you could go for either of them.

:black_small_square: Team building

last but definetly not least comes team building.

with chongyun as a main dps, you'll want to build your team arround him. a good team example without 5☆ characters would be this one:

Chongyun | Xingqiu | Sucrose | Bennett

the way this team works isn't complicated, using xingqiu and sucrose's bursts and skills will increase and enable chongyun's damage output heavily, while bennett can both increase his damage even further and heal everyone. if you have 5* characters, xingqiu can be replaced by mona and sucrose can be replaced with venti.

here's a little list of characters that work well with chongyun as a main dps:

•Venti (, crowd control)

•Qiqi (healing, cryo resonance)

•Bennett (atk boost, healing)

•Mona (, freeze-shatter reactions)

•Xingqiu (, freeze-shatter reactions)

•Barbara (healing, freeze-shatter reactions)

•Diona (healing, shielding, cryo resonance)

•Xiangling (, melt reactions)

•Sucrose (, crowd control)

•Anemo Traveler (, crowd control)

•Ganyu (cryo dmg boost, cryo resonance)

that's about it. if you read the whole thing, i seriously hope it helped a bit. thanks for reading too. :^)
