Star Wars is the only media franchise that technically has two holidays as we have the more well known May The 4th and we have the lesser known May The 25th with May the 25th being the official holiday and May the 4th being the fan made holiday. Some people chose to celebrate one over the other I choose to celebrate them both as that means that instead of just having one day dedicated to Star Wars we can now celebrate it on two days and with the film that i'm going to be talking about today being nearer fifty then forty I thought that it made sense to take a look back at the film that started it all and so then me as I review the film thar kickstarted the whole Star Wars saga with the film in question being called simply just "Star Wars: A New Hope" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when a space Princess is kidnapped it's to young space farmer and a smuggler to save her and it's up to the trio to get the plans to Death Star to the rebel alliance so that they may find a way to destroy and loosen the Empire's grip on the galaxy for good. Now then in of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good as it was the kind of plot that would not only work in films today but has worked in various films over the years as well as this is a plot that isn't just limited to the science fiction genre as it's core it's about someone trying to get something important to other people and that's it and that's something that is a universal plot device with the way that this film treats it making it feel alot more filled out and developed as we get to understand not only from the royal point of view but also from every single point of view that you can think off just what this small victory would mean to people and while yes this films plot could have been a bit more developed as the last half of the film with the rebel allegiance does feel tacked on even that portion of the plot is still just as good as the rest of this films plot was with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker , Harrison Ford as Han Solo and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia Organa. Also starring in this film is Peter Cushing as Grand Moff Tarkin , Sir Alec Guinness as Ben Kenobi , Anthony Daniels as C3PO , Kenny Baker as R2-D2 , Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca , David Prowse as Darth Vader , Jack Purvis as Chief Jawa , Eddie Byrne as General Willard Phil Brown as Uncle Owen , Shelagh Fraser as Aunt Beru , Paul Blake as Greedo , Alex McCrindle as General Dodonna , Drewe Hemley as Red Leader , Dennis Lawson as Wedge Antilles , Garrick Hagon as Briggs and James Earl Jones as The Voice Of Darth Vader.
Now then in of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films actors both main and not turning in some really good performances in this film with there performances turning what could have been as being a rather lackluster script and even tho it's been very well documented that George Lucas barely spoke to his actors when making this film none of them feel lost or miscast with them all giving the right kin of performance for there respective characters with the only real fault being that some performance do feel like the kind of performance that you'd get in the first take with the death of Ben being a prime example of that as while Mark Hamill is a really good actor in that moment where he just lets out that no it just felt off as that should have been a emotional moment for that character as while yes the character of Luke didn't know Ben for all that long he is basically the second father figure that Luke has lost in the same day and there for his reaction to seeing his mentor being brutally killed off should be a more emotional one instead of him just sounding like he's heard that Disney is doing a live action remake of his favorite Disney animated movie with it even being hard to say just who this films best actor was as there all just so good in this film but if push did indeed come to shove it would have be James Earl Jones as the man was just born to play Darth Vader as he has such a deep and rich voice that does make the character sound rather threatening with the acting that's in this film really being helped by this film as this films script is just good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Industrial Light & Magic. Now then in if what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good as while yes it was obvious what was added in the films re-releases and what wasn't added the effects in the film as a whole do hold up really well and while it would be very tempting to say that the re-release effects like the creatures that we see when Ben and Luke are driving around Mos Eisley look better then the effects in the original film due to those Mos Eisley effects being produced when CGI was alot more advanced that just simply isn't the case as the effects from the original films release will always look better then the more effects as the original effects had alot more thought and effort put into them and just look ageless due to the fact that alot of them were done for real by hand where as while yes granted the more newer CGI effects in the film do look really good no one is going to ever dispute that claim but at the same time tho lot of them do look incredibly dated like for example Jabba The Hutt looks really dated in this film and that's sadly the case for alot of the re-release effects in this film where as alot of the effects that were in the original film look better however the best looking effect in the whole movie is oddly enough the set extension that they do to Mos Eisley as it now looks like this huge sprawling city with the effect looking seamless as it's something that you really wouldn't know was there unless you was looking for it in the first place.

People seem to think that having a strong female character in either films or any other form of media for that matter is a relatively new thing. When the truth is that it isn't as this film is a prime example of how to write a female and write her well as while yes the character of Princess Leia is still very famine she openly helps out Han and Luke when they struggle to find away to escape when the Stormtroopers have them pinned and yet she's still willing to show joy , sadness and anger towards people in certain situations all of which do make her a strong female character and yet what's the first thing that Disney did when they got a hold her they literally gave her a demotion from Princess to General even tho being a princess would have given her more power and would have enabled her to do more good then what a General would have been able to and then they rob of her of everything that made Leia who she was in this film and replaced it with a character that was Leia in name only only all under the pretenses of making her a stronger character and yet that's not something that needn't have to do as this film already did that and so all they had to do was just copy how she was written in the original trilogy and that's it but they didn't because Disney and modern day Lucasfilm doesn't know how to write good actually strong female characters anymore with the only real exceptions being both Asajj Ventress and Ashoka Tano and that's it as none of the female character that Disney has created for this brand have had the staying power that Leia has as none of them are that well written where as with Leia it's the opposite that's true as she's actually given faults and flaws that make her more human and she's an actually witty character with her using her wit a few occasions in this film.
There are a few things that do let this film down by quite a bit with the first which being that while Luke and Leia get alot of the focus and backstory Han doesn't get any of that. With us not really finding out all that much about Han as a character and what it is that makes him tick with the only real things that we find out about him is the fact that he owes Jabba some money and that he's a smuggler and that's it and that's not enough to make him all that interesting as a character which is odd as on paper he is the character that should have been more interesting due to the fact that we don't get to find out all that much about him as that could have added an air of mystery to his character which if that was the intention of the makers of this film then they failed as you still need to make us want to know more about him and the what way when he does come back to save Luke near the end of the movie it would feel right for his character and yet even tho it's still a really good and cheerful moment as we get to see the good guy take down the bad guys we audience have no idea on if this is how his character would act nor do we know if it's something that his character would even do something like this as we hadn't been told all that much about him which would have been fine if Han was just one of the random Red characters and therefor we're not really meant to to care about him as he's just canon fodder for the Empire at that point but he's not he's a main character and yet while we do rightfully get to find alot about Luke we get next to nothing for Han which just feels wrong as this film is an ensemble film and there for we should get to know quite alot about all of the main characters as that would then allow for us the audience to get to really care for all of them and not just Luke and Leia.

Another thing that doesn't quite work in this film but is a little bit more understandable is the fact that Luke does believe Ben a bit two quickly. This a little bit more understandable as it does form apart of Luke's heroes' journey and so you can kind of forgive it especially as Luke has just lost two of the people who were quite close to him as well but at the same time he doesn't even question Ben at all he just takes everything that he says at face value when actually questioning him would have been the more logical thing to do but given that Luke had just lost his aunt and uncle when he agrees to go and Ben on his mission in this film it is quite understandable what isn't as understandable however is how the Stormtroopers go from having really good aim something which even Ben himself comments on not long after after first meeting Luke to then suddenly not having able to hit any of the films main actors while this has become somewhat of a joke in the Star Wars fandom over the years it is something that should be brought up as it makers both the Empire and The Emperor look weak and foolish because of it as he is the one who keeps these guys around and yet while there good at keeping small groups of people under control there not so good at taking out any of the main of the rebel alliance which does make them ineffective as villains as all quite literally any member of the public would have to do is just stand behind Luke and all of a sudden the stormtroopers wouldn't be able to him and while this isn't that big of an issue as it was something that could have been explained in the prequel films it's the fact that they don't explain it away that makes it a big issue.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and four minuets and fort four seconds. Which is pretty much the bogstandard running time for these Star Wars films to have and to this films credit it really does have the right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time the issue is tho is that this film doesn't really use it's running time all that wisely as while the film takes alot of time in setting up the world that this films takes place in it doesn't spend that much time in fully developing this films plot or characters with the plot being as decently developed as it could have been give that this film was the middle part of a much more larger script and while the hero characters are for the most fully developed it's the villain characters that also get the short end of the stick as while it's fair enough that Darth Vader wasn't that well developed as we get the entire prequel trilogy to develop him as a character none of the films one shot characters are developed as we get to find out nothing about Greedo and Tarkin and these are meant to be side villains in this film and yet Greedo does understandably get shot in his only scene Tarkin despite having alot more scenes and therefor alot more chances to get across just what his character his like doesn't do any of that and therefor we the audience have no reason to fear him outside of the fact that he blew up Alderaan and that's really it and while the film thankfully doesn't expect us to feel sorry for him when him and possibly thousands of people who might not be evil get blown up at the end of the movie it still would have gone along way into making sure that us the audience truly hate this character if we got to find out a bit more about him as a character but I really will it that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well the in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. As even tho the fight between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader was a little bit slow in context of the story that is something that makes sense as the characters are meant to be alot more older now and therefor they would naturally move alot more slower then what they would have done in the prequel films and while there fight is very well done that's not the best action scene in the movie as that honor goes to the entire trench run scene near the end of the movie as that whole scene is just well done and filled to the brim with the suspense as even tho they are nameless characters that get killed off during that scene they do also make it very well aware that Luke could possibly and even tho that won't happen due to the fact that he's the main character it's the very fact that he could die that helps to make that scene alot more suspenseful that what it really had any right to be as by all rights the trench run sequence shouldn't be as good as it was but due to the fact that the makers of the film add in little things like the fact that the characters miss there first attempt of destroying the Death Star and the fact that Luke could die with him even being targeted by Vader himself it all goes a long way into making that scene the best action scene in this film as it's a scene that on paper shouldn't have worked and yet due to all pf those things coming together beautifully it not only works but it works really well as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall for a film that's almost forty eight years old as this review is being written on May the 24th and not on May the 25th it's a film that really holds up really well and is a damn sight better then any of the sequel trilogy of films as you can tell right from the get go that there's more thought and effort put into this film then there in any of the sequel films as that's just how good that this film is in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now the i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 0 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Star Wars fandom wiki page , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great the official Star Wars fandom wiki page this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the really great the official Star Wars fandom wiki page are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid the official Star Wars fandom wiki page really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
