Back To The Future Part 2 Review

Film fans incase you all don't know i'm a fan of the Back To the Future trilogy so much so that I actually own all three films on DVD. So it really shouldn't come as any surprise that I would want to review another one of the movies since i've already covered the first film and well since we are technically five years in the future now I figured that now is a great time to bring you my review of 1989 film "Back To The Future Part 2" before you all say anything yes I know that the poster says 1997 but i'm only using that one because it's the only poster for the film that was in HD so there you go.

The plot of the movie is Doc , Marty and Marty's girlfriend Jennifer travel to the year 2015 in order to stop there son from committing a crime which would see him thrown away for fifteen years and in turn would stop there daughter from trying to brake him thus landing her in jail for twenty years but while there and older version of Biff steals a sports statistics book that Marty bought in order to win money and thus Doc and Marty after leaving Jennifer in 1985 must travel to 1955 to get the book back from young Biff. Yeah I know that it took me a long time to summarise the plot of the movie but that's just because so much happens in the film that it would be impossible for me to condense what happens in the film as for what I thought about the story it was really entertaining even if alot of it is just build up for Back To The Future Part 3.

Reprising there roles from the first film are Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly / Marty McFly Jr. / Marlene McFly , Christopher Lloyd as Doc Emmett Brown , Lea Thompson as Lorraine Baines-McFly , Thomas F. Wilson as Biff Tannen / Griff Tannen and James Tolkan as Mr. Strickland, ing them are Jeffrey Weissman as George McFly , Elisabeth Shue as Jennifer Parker and Flea as Douglas J. Needles.

The acting in these films has always been really good in my opinion and the same is also true for this film. The acting from everyone involved is really good I will grant you this the acting isn't OSCAR worthy by any stretch of the imagination but it's the kind of acting that you want to see from these characters who are all acting the way that you want them to act and again with the chemistry it goes without saying that pretty much all of the actors have great chemistry with each other which is something that i've honestly never said before and most likely never will say again.

Now i'm not sure if this common knowledge or not but for this film and for very different reasons actors Crispin Glover and Claudia Wells who played George Mcfly (Crispin Glover) and Jennifer Parker (Claudia Wells) in the first film were recast for the sequel but for entirely different reasons. For you Claudia was recast because her mother had fallen ill and so she was taking time of to look after her even tho she was due to reprise her role as Jennifer for both sequels. Crispin on the other hand was recast for what is in my opinion more selfish reasons he basically believed that he should getting the same amount of money as main starts Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd even tho he's a minor character in the films and so rather rightfully he was recast for this film and for Back To The Future Part 3.

Speaking of Crispin he does actually appear in the film through the use of archive footage from the first film as well as making up actor Jeffrey Weissman to look like him. To say that this didn't make Crispin happy would be a huge understatement because he would go on to sue the producers of the film for using his likeness without his permissions and he actually won the case as such there are now rules in place that producers and directors cannot use the likeness of an actor without his or her permission so whenever you see the likeness of an actor being used you can bet that the actor of there astate agreed to it being used in that film / video game or whatever it's being used in.

One of the smart things that this film does which is something that time travel sequels seem to never do for some unknown reason. That is in this film they actually go into the story of the first film with scenes from the first film either being shown via archive footage or being shown from a different angle which is such a cool idea since we get to see what happened after certain scenes in the first movie played out

Now it would daft of me if I didn't mention the fact that from a technical stand point is the fact that they have the same character playing multiple roles in the same scene. I don't know how they did those scenes but the fact that they did it without computers is a huge achievement of course you'll all know this but there's a scene in this movie where  Michael J. Fox plays three different characters he plays Marty his son and his daughter all in one shot and it makes you wonder how the hell they did it.

The CGI for the film was done by Industrial Light & Magic and I don't think I need to say what they've done since there such a well known effects company. You'd actually be shocked how many effects shots that there are in the film even alot of the shots of the hover boards in motion where done with effects and they honestly hold up really well that at times I forgot that I was watching an effect.

How this this film does time travel is sort of odd because of the fact that they have a character who's travelling to the future meeting there future selves which just wouldn't be the case at all. So you really shouldn't have a scene with old Marty because young Marty isn't around for old Marty to exist it's the same thing with Jennifer since young Jennifer is there then old Jennifer wouldn't be there because she wouldn't exist. The film can get away with having characters from the fifties meet there older selves because it's in the fifties and so it would work differently then it does having characters from the present in this case the eighties meeting there future selves.

Overall I cannot say that this is better then the first film because it's not infact in my opinion it's the worst in the trilogy. However every film in this trilogy is really good and so to say that this one is the worst one in the trilogy doesn't make it a bad film it just means that there are two other good films that I think are better then this one and so with all this in mind and yes the film does have some issues it still gets a 7.5 out of 10 from me and yes I know that Biff from 2015 dies and yet none of the other characters from 2015 die even tho there future would also be effected.
