Does anyone have any advice for DIY/Sewing?

I'm trying to make more use of my old clothes that I still like, and I'm hoping someone has some advice? I don't have access to a sewing machine right now, but I have all the supplies to hand sew things, I'm just rusty and I want to find an efficient method.
