So as most of y’all know for the past year I’ve been daily driving a 1967 ford ranchero. I love it it’s been great its taught me the basics of how to work on cars. It’s also my first car since I got it when I was 16. However the past 4 months have been absolute hell with this thing there’s nothing wrong with it. Starts up and drives just fine but the gas prices are fucking ridiculous. Getting 12 mpg on average at $4.25 a gallon is absurd so I simply need something else.

Throwback to when I got it inspected last year

Firstly I’m not selling the ranchero I still have it I’m going to have it for quite some time in fact I hope I can get buried in it so my family doesn’t have to spend a ridiculous amount of money on a casket. And I’ve done some things to it this summer just to make it tad better

Glasspack exhausts to annoy the Homeowners association

Disc Brakes in the front so it can stop better

lowered it 2 more inches (it’s about 4 inches lower than when I first got it)

Patched a few holes from rust to keep it cooler on the inside used my shitty welding skills and actually did a decent job

Blue bench seats from a 74 Torino

also going to have the interior painted and finished up here shortly before my senior year starts

So I’ve basically got everything done the outside needs some work due to the patches of rustoleum and the white unfinished roof. Might do an engine swap eventually who knows but other than that it’s been a great car and should continue to be one

so what did I get?

A 1992 ford Ranger

Drove it home it runs good brakes are a little sketchy but still better than the ranchero was with drums

Why did I get it?

well basically it was only $1,600 and it gets 22 miles per gallon. I’m also not gonna have to deal with carburetor BS when it’s too hot or too cold

how do you a 17 year old afford that.

well I payed the ranger off in full my ranchero payment is $200 a month and insurance is like $250 so basically all I need to do is make $700 a month that’s not that hard to do when I work 48 hours a week at 16 an hour at discount tire.

got any plans for it?

Nope it’s not a project

SINCE I KNOW MOST WILL NOT READ THE WHOLE THING I AM NOT GETTING RID OF THE RANCHERO

I am just so relieved you're keeping the Ranchero! It may not be super reliable or good as a daily period, but that's history right there, they won't build them like that again. That little 2.3 in the Ranger is gutless, but it'll run forever.

I’ve got a few goofy ass offers for my ranchero and when it got to the point where I thought “maybe I should sell it” I just got a cheaper alternative to daily I could never sell this thing my dad got it for me he’s a truck driver so it was one of few things we’ve been able to do together since he’s always gone so I really have a strong connection with it

“Brakes are better than the ranchero with drums”

I’m pretty sure opening your door and dragging your foot on the ground would be a better braking system than the ranchero with drums lol
