2012 Hyundai Genesis 3.8, not shifting properly

Bought this baby @ 95k ish miles 2 years ago and the problem started about a month after having it. May have floored it a hand full of times in that period (loved the car) but drove it normally for the most part. This issue arises / goes away almost completely in 3-5 day increments… Mostly only happens around the 10-40 mph range but it’s really whenever I’m accelerating (idk, I know nothing about cars). Upon accelerating, my car won’t shift/accelerate and my rpm’s will SKYROCKET (if I let it) from 2k to 4K+ and will easily hit 5k if I keep on the gas. So I’ve learned to “catch it” each time it does this and let off the gas so my rpm’s will level / drop. If I DONT do this my car will jerk like no other and so I’ve gotten very good at catching it early. No joke, on a bad day this will happen every 10-15 seconds if I’m driving in the city and need to stop/accelerate often. So you can imagine my annoyance.. but the wild thing is is that it will completely go away the very next day.. like it wasn’t even happening. After about a year of driving it I had my dad take it to a reputable auto body shop (Ik, I shouldn’t have waited that long) and the dude basically said it was a simple, cheap fix and all that was needed was to put a clip? on something and that I was good to go. Problem came back weeks later. Again, I really don’t know anything about cars so I’m wondering if this would be a serious transmission issue or if any of you had similar problems in the past. Edit: it’s an automatic
