This is a theory I thought of myself... What if the Legend of Zelda series occur in the future
Story if the theory is right
We don't see Skyloft rise, so the monsters rising may be because they don't understand things like an nuclear fallout...
This tries in with a theory that The Jetsons occur before The Flintstones where some WWIII caused the earth to basically reset, the humans escaped to the clouds until they can inhabit the earth again.
The Zelda one for the theory is the same, that created Skyloft... they were unaware of the technology, so they guessed that it was monsters
Items
In Zelda games, the ancient technology is far advanced compared to the normal tech... you could say "Magic" but none of the magic items have been called even "old" the dominion rod is a great example of advanced past tech. And if the tech was magic, it would consume your magic, but it never does... as a note, the City In the Skys use propellers, that was invented in the 1827,
Easter eggs?
Now this is for fun... Easter eggs that reinforce the theory... I know that easter eggs aren't "Canon" but this is just for fun... ready? Let's go then
Super Mario RPG
-Link is found sleeping at an inn
-Samus is found asleep in the castle
Kirby Dream Land 2
-Samus makes a cameo in one of the levels
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
-The fifth area is called Shiver Star and is a post apocalyptic Earth
If we count Easter eggs as Canon, this is guaranteed because the Zelda games have to occur while Shiver Star is occurring.
Enemies/Surface Dwelling Races
This is easy to explain. The enemies and prior surface dwellers, if the theory is correct, are those who were exposed to the radiation and were mutated. The bokoblins were people, Deku Babas were Venus Flytraps, Keese are (obviously) bats, etc. The races like Gorons and Zoras were mutated genetically so they can survive is specific areas, like in volcanoes and in water.
So that's my theory, comment if you want.

Oh wait. Sorry, I thought you were just talking about skyward sword for some reason. Ignore my timeline comment

I was talking about the series as a whole

Yeah, I noticed that immediatly after writing that comment. Still a good theory though! <|Now adding to personal head-canon|>
Meta-theory!
Thanks
I agree with this theory
Thank you for your
